The Elio Automatic Transmission

I vote for the AMT to have paddle shifters on the steering wheel for use in manual mode. That would be cool.

Paddle shifters are okay if you have some meat under the hood. With this engine ? I don't know. Guess it would be something to play with.

Must be regional, as you say. My brother-in-law was teaching in France and needed a rental car last year. Where he was in France all rental cars had standard transmissions. In Atlanta, he could not find a single car rental company that had a single car with a manual transmission so that he could learn to drive one! Around here, that would definitely be a theft deterrent.

That's an interesting point on manual tranny being a theft deterrent. Never considered that. I'm still on the fence between manual and auto.

L and A are the automatics. The numbers are the number of gears.

I see there was some issues with over heating in some of the early versions of these AMT type transmissions used in other vehicles. I wonder if the cooler will be installed with the Elio's AMT transmission.

In a 1200 pound vehicle over heating may not be much of an issue.

I think the heating issues may be in the hydraulics that operate the clutches and shifters.
