Yes, but did you know that some trains have a second locomotive which pulls them from the back?

Freight trains are often seen with one in front one in the middle and one in the rear. This is done for many reasons.
1. builds air much faster than having all in front.
2. having one in the rear makes it faster to drop un-need units. Power units are a huge cost and always in demand. So being able to add or remove power quickly is a money saver
3. Some unit trains the rear one is also used in switching .

Commuter trains have a unit on the rear than can control the engine for return trips.

Locomotives are used to pull (or push) the train. When a train is being pushed, it looks as the though train is moving backwards.
but did you know President James Garfield was not only ambidextrous but he could write Latin with one hand and at the same time write Greek with the other?
