this thread was started to provide a single location where info about the P5 is learned, it can be recorded and discussed .... as such it can later be confirmed or amended as needed .... well, here is what is known as of today .... as a side note, as has been mentioned in other threads by several members, now that EM is a publicly traded company, most information releases have to go through a legal review process .... needless to say, that has been and will continue to slow down the flow of info

on 3-6-16 at the Tour Event in Shreveport, LA I learned :

1. sun/moon roof panels will be available as an option .... the exact nature of those panels is being finalized

2. the driver's seat belt will be attached on the left (door side) .... there was an attempt to mount it on the right (off door) side .... that was made impossible by a decision from some safety outfit ....the reason that all seat belts are attached on the door side is to drastically lessen the possibility of a driver/passenger falling out if the vehicle's door should come open

3. the type of trunk latch is still being discussed

4. the company that makes the body panels has all of the equipment in place that is needed to do so

5. the Elio will come designed to be flat towed with either the manual or automatic transmission .... all that will be needed is the attachment of a tow bar and electrical connection for the Elio's taillights .... in short, no transmission oil coolers or any other equipment will be necessary .... a big name supplier is designing the tow bar

6. a backup camera that isn't part of the Skyz system will be an option

7. the jigs (based on the P5) necessary to build an Elio are being used/perfected by the build of the 25 prototypes .... at some point they will be moved to Shreveport

8. the manner of gaining access to get to the rear tire is close to being finalized

9. it will come built to accommodate a roof rack

10. they realize some of the owners modify it to tow a trailer .... they will not sanction or recommend such a modification

11. yellow will NOT, repeat NOT be an option for the first year of production

12. it does have a cup holder in the front and back

Great info, Jim! Good questions, and I'm liking the answers you got. Much appreciated!

Thanks for the update.

2. Good. That makes the most sense.

4. That doesn't mean anything. I have all the equipment in place to build a space shuttle in my garage, technically.

10. That's the lawyers squawking. Many cars don't sanction or recommend towing a trailer, but you can get hitches for them all at your local U-Haul. Not a big deal.

12. Cup holders are mandatory in the you-ess of Aaay! :D

As for #4 - If by having "all the equipment" they mean ALL of the SMC molds to build an Elio, it is indeed a huge deal. Building the molds is initially VERY expensive, but it's justified by the quality of the parts and quantity they're able to crank out per day.

Agreed. If they have the molds, that is a big deal. But I sincerely doubt they have them yet.

Like you said, that would be a huge cost and I doubt Elio has finalized the body design to the point that they've written the large check for the final molds.

we were told that they do in fact have the molds for all of the body panels .... and yep, that's supposed to be a major step forward
