Well, my plan for picking up my Elio is something like this.
Both wife and I take a week off work (vacation).
Going to drive to Shreveport from Jacksonville, Fl area in our Mercedes E class (not bragging, but imagine getting out of that car into a Elio, LOL).
Have a nice dinner with some local cuisine and spend the night somewhere, maybe that casino that was mentioned earlier in the thread.
Get up and have some Eggs Benedict, LOL (I love that heart clogging and stopping concoction).
Drive to the Elio factory, check it out, hopefully take a tour, pick up the Elio and do a little practice driving.
Then spend the next 3-4 days driving back to Jacksonville area with a few side trips,
Like New Orleans for some beignets, maybe stop and see the wonderful people at Villalobos rescue and make a donation for their cause.
Then head towards Mississippi for some good BBQ.
Stop in the panhandle of Florida to see family and friends, maybe run down to Panama City Beach for a day.
Then head on home.
Sounds boring, but I think we will enjoy it.

Hey dude. Green with envy. Sounds like a fun trip to me and the way to do it up right. Welcome to the site.

I plan to do the factory tour also. I live near Charlotte, NC and I hope to do something like this: have my wife drive me to Atlanta and catch an early morning Greyhound to Shreveport. Atlanta to S-port is about 12 hours. Spend the night, have a look around the Elio plant, pick up my car and head East. Probably take two days getting home. FYI --- I'll be 82 if the Elio folks keep to their current production schedule.

Welcome Allin. Sounds good to me. Looks like you'll be a 2 "E" car family like me. You see I'll have an Element and an Elio too. Kind of nice rubbing elbows with the higher classes, Right? LOL

Super idea, Bob, I'll be doing something similar out of Memphis.
PS I've always heard Royalty like Kings had a propensity toward catching Gout. You're the first I've heard who moved to Gastonia. Sounds painful.

Outstanding; an Elio and Element (cargo hauler)! I've got a 2007 Honda Element; and LOVE IT...... except for the gas mileage!

My first gas friendly car was the original Honda Insight, 2001 model. Drove that thing until my daughter got old enough to need a car, so we then bought a Ford Fusion Hybrid and the Insight went to daughter.
The battery pack in the Insight went out at the 4 year, 8 year and 10 year mark, so after the 3rd battery pack I decided it was time to get rid of it since the hybrid battery warranty was running out, So i sold the Fusion Hybrid to daughter and bought the wife a MB E350. Man, what a car!!!
So the Elio will be a 3rd vehicle for us, and maybe save some miles on the MB.
I am hoping with all the experience I have in "hypermiling" those hybrids I can do good in the Elio.

Hi RogWild. Looks like Allin will be driving right threw your neighborhood on the way to Shreveport. He's also visiting old friends in N.West Florida on his way back too. Sorry about your milage but I never expected more than 19 in the city and maybe 22 plus on the road. I love the way it cleans up easily and almost water proof interior plus the cavernous cargo hole.

Kuda, being realistic, in today's atmosphere of "sue happy 'snakes' ", (lawyers) I seriously think that the liability involved with dragging a bunch of "folks" through their factory, will likely not happen. Regardless of what is being said.

Of coarse, that's just my own stupid opinion, and we are ALL entitled to those. o_O

Don't be too sure. I've taken several factory floor tours that Toyota made available at their assembly plant in Georgetown, Kentucky. Reflecting on those, I recognize that they took place six years ago. We were loaded on trams, provided with safety glasses, and got a thorough tour with a live tour guide.

Another alternative is to have an enclosed catwalk above the factory floor.

Personally I vote for a tram with tour guide. I have only been on one plant tour and that was in the Nash plant in Kenosha, Wisconsin in 1952. I was only 11 years old so I don't remember all the details - fragments of memory of seeing the parts being put together - but I don't know if we were walking or on a tram. Today walking a large plant would be very difficult for those of us who are the least bit limited in mobility. :-) Z
