For those of you new to the forum, this issue has already been beat to death. The simple answer was given by an Elio rep on facebook. The reason for the location of the filler tube is simply because it saves $10 in tube per vehicle by routing it where it is. They are going to save money wherever they can to get your Elio to that $6800 price point, and this is one of them. And no, it won't be an option.

interesting .... since my first Jeep CJ 5 back in '65 all of the regular vehicles I've ever owned have had the fuel port on the driver's side .... if Elio feels the need to put it on the other side it really doesn't seem to be a point that would bother me .... there are things that would instantly remove a vehicle from further consideration but the location fuel port isn't one of them

Never bothered me, as I've got vehicles with them on both sides. I usually pull up to whatever pump is available and stretch the hose to where I need it. Even if I had to use the pump on the left side of the vehicle, the fuel access will be closer than it would be on a 4-wheeled vehicle with a right-side filler. Save the bucks and make the vehicle!!!

I just watched the safety video in this link http://www.elioowners.com/threads/elio-safety-video.2993/#post-41090 .... take a look at the location of the gas fuel port shown at the 1:53 mark on the video .... the vehicle in the video is said to be a P3 model .... I find it interesting that they have changed the location on the P4's .... to me, that's neither good or bad, it just interesting
