Seriously? The Gas Cap Has A Real Unmodifiable Reason To Be On The Wrong Side?

I now own my first car with the fill on the right. What I never realized was because most fills are on the left this usually results in a line at the pumps. But, there are usually one or two pumps not being used because they are not accessible or convenient for all those vehicles. I'm now accustomed to pulling right in to an empty pump, filling up, and leaving while those others are still waiting in line. Observe next time you're waiting to fill up.

About that "emergency roadside gas can fill-up"; Did everyone forget about that left front tire that's going to be sticking out further than you?
That same tire is also going to make it a bit more interesting at the "drive-in" windows.

I was thinking more like the attendant having to stretch to hand you your food.

The gas cap looks to be on the right side... a day from traffic. Who runs out of gas any more? There is usually a gauge that tells you your fuel level. They aren't hard to figure out but I'm sure you could take a class or something about them if you need. Kidding, of course. Imagine filling up while your significant other is asleep in the rear.... in the VERY unlikely event that a fire.starts at the pump, would you rather have the only door in the car on fire or the side opposite the only door. I, for one, am not sure I could drag my wife out through the trunk.

That's a "great big thumbs up in my house too," Ty!

Not sure about all these reports of "global warming," but I can sure tell you, that over the past 47 years of our marriage the effects of gravity has CERTAINLY increased it's effect on the human body!!! o_O

Sorry for dragging up the dead but rather than start a new thread I'd cast my vote here.

Door side. You can't splash and dash with it way over on the other end of the world.

P.S. not old school splash and dash with the theft part in there, just speed and efficiency.

Hey NOLIKEIT. Just wanted to welcome you to this forum. I'm hoping that your chosen "forum name," "NOLIKEIT," doesn't in any way indicate your feeling toward our beloved Elio.

Welcome, either way, from the Bayou State, And future birth place of Paul Elio's little Elio. . . . . . Louisiana! :)

As I understand it, it is on the non-door side because they don't have to go around the door with the gas line. Also, there is no reason to let your car run out gas. I have been driving for 57 years and have never run out gas. If I did, I would be pulling off to the right side of the road - this is the USA - so putting gas in it would be safer because I would be on the side away from the traffic. To my way of thinking they definitely chose the safer side. :) Z

I like your reply , it is correct and you explained it well. I might add when at the gas station pumps, you will have the door on the opposite side of the pumps. That gives plenty of space to open the door without concern of hitting the pumps or pump curbing. A win, win. The Elio engineering is just grand!
