in 1956 dollars, $2200 is around $19130 in 2014 dollars. You can find plenty of cars in this price range with paddle shifters, such as the Honda Fit, which are practially the same as button shifters, but better as they prevent dumping into gears.

But like it or not, it will be a floor mounted shifter, on the right hand side of the vehicle, because EM is giving us the manual transmission, and they're not going to go to the expense of having two completely different interiors in the factory.
