Is it easier to tweak the car design to get the mounting points right, or to re-design the block casting each time you need to change the car design? My guess is it's easier to fiddle the mounting points on the car -- which is what they've had to do to mount the current prototype engines. New prototype may necessitate different mounts, etc.I would think that since Elio commissioned IAV to design their block that they would have required the mounting points to be in the right places. Maybe not though. If I asked for a motor to be built, that is what I would have done. (I would have also asked for more power... Maybe it's good I wasn't doing the asking.)
I agree. Love this car but the loaner exhaust sounds bad.Seems like a new elio prototype shows up about every 6-7 months??
Oh, I wish they would actually put a exhaust system on the P's the damn things sound awful. If I was spending over $125,000 for a P, prototype.... I would want it to sound good. (first impressions are so important to new buyers)
Ah, I think your on the wrong forum. This is the Elio. As of the latest prototype, the orange one.Lots of fun idea,, me, I want the new P5 or P6 to be SIMILAR to the tuvie.com SEV the space efficient vehicle from the Netherlands.
3 people, staggered (NOT SIDE BY SIDE) seating, a decent size trunk and better areo which means better mpg's, and a faster elio..and I do worry about the ice and snow build on those pontoons..we have ice storms here in OKC.
we have 85% of the costly stuff done, toss some plastic on it and go, go elio, we have 14 months to make it a world wide million vehicle seller and not just to old bikers and commuters. If I only had one change, a passenger door on the curb side so my grandkids can get out safely and not in traffic..i would gladly give up a star for that.
I sure hope the folks at Elio actually read this thread …. but of course, it would be out of character for them actually to say "thanks for the great ideas."Check out the Suzuki alto, close to the elio in size and weight...EM could have bought the engine and drive train from Suzuki, put it in the elio, and from what it looks like..probably would get over a 100mpg. highway..heck, they could still do it in the 14 months. Buy say 50,000 combos, and take your time with the IAV, and make monthly payments to IAV also.
