Interesting considering, if I pay a grand or so and get the upgrade, I'd have all the features of a fully functional OBD-II through an app plus a little more like Internet and Bluetooth. That data has to be streamed from somewhere...
I feel like there specifically truncating OBD-II to push their upgrade package.
I don't think EM did it on purpose to sell the option as I first heard about the possibility of limited OBD-II support in the spring which was apparently months before Elio Motors made the Skyzmatic deal. However what I do think is that having that system as an option made it easier for them to make the final decision to use the less expensive ECU and only implement the basic OBD-II support which is all that is required for basic fault code troubleshooting and to meet the NHTSA FMVSS and CARB OBD-II requirements which do not require streaming data support.
I agree the information is there, it just needs accessed. Unless they replace this ecu with another one when you get the upgrade.
As I pointed out in my information above this is exactly what the Skyzmatic system does as it bypasses the ECU and connects directly to the vehicles CAN BUS thus acquiring the information directly.
