This afternoon SpaceX successfully landed their first stage on the floating barge.

Bells and whistles - bah humbug. Not tesla specific but I think related to what happens when people get sucked in by bells and whistles to buy cars that are more expensive than they should be.

My buddy finally decides to replace his rotting 15 year old truck. He looked around and decided he must have a Platinum or Raptor F-150 but was having a hard time swallowing the cost of all the toys. We looked at a bunch of year old and slightly used trucks that were in his price range but he kept insisting he needed the toys on the Platinum/Raptor models.

He eventually found a Raptor with low miles and in another state. It cost him well north of $50,000 to get it here and then of course he has begun to add things like bed covers; he is now north of $60,000 into this truck.

I finally got a chance to get a ride in it yesterday. As I looked around all the toys he finally admitted he doesn't use more than 20% of them and that he preferred the simplicity of his old truck. He got sucked into buying a very expensive truck that has a bunch of toys that he didn't need but it wasn't because they were tacked onto some package but that he was sold on the idea that he needed a package and that the toys came with it.

I don't know what it is that allows people to be convinced they need all these new fancy schmancy toys that drive up cost, complicate life, and that you ultimately don't need. Heck, at least Elio will allow the technology in the vehicle to change as technology evolves; that isn't going to be the same for my buddy and his expensive truck.

Casting stones... bet your cell phone isn't several years old... or your computer... we all get suckered about different things. I bought a Tablo which records TV over the air with better quality than cable or DirecTv (which is what I had last)... I can't believe that we people got suckered into believing it was a good thing to pay up to $100 a month for the privilege of throwing away hours of our lives every day while staring at a device that displays advertisement designed to make us want to spend our hard earned cash on other things we don't need. Taboo, plus $5 a month for the advanced menu that makes it function much like your existing ever (except, I like it's interface better) costs a total of $5 per month. Of the 19 different shows that the 5 in my family liked to watch, 18 were available for free. Gone now is the $140 a month DirecTV Bill and you know what? I'll be just as happy without that one show... Better Call Saul.

It's okay to cast the blame as long as no one looks at our own guilt. I cut the cable 2 months ago... I don't NEED to waste a big chunk of my life sitting and staring at a box... just makes us all less healthy.
