Could it be that the smaller engines with turbos work better (mpg) with variable valve timing than those that don't? It seems to me that on the surface that simpler should be more reliable, but technology (complexity) is permitting the performance increases in recent years. And yes, a few years of production allows bugs to be worked out. That is one reason why I have not put $1000 down for a spot in line. (I'm at the $100 level). I don't want the earliest production, but one after bugs have been found and addressed. There will be bugs and even with waiting a while there may still be bugs, but hopefully small ones easily taken care of.

Variable valve timing has been around since the 80's. It became a normal thing on 4 valve motors because for performance vs efficiency vs mileage. The biggest change has been direct injection. What you have to remember, none of these changes have resulted in some massive change in mileage (which is what everyone looks at). An ICE has a certain amount of efficiency. We re just making it better by just shaving off bits at a time. There's not going to be a holy grail for ICE efficiency. This is why years ago that a Prius became the gold standard because it just raised the overall efficiency my a pretty good chunk. With ICE we are hitting the asymptote and not getting the numbers that we really hope wed get.

We actually have to change what we are going to do because of the standards we set in place. If we didn't care about safety, then we'd have 2000 lb cars. if we didn't care about the environment, we'd have those Geo Metros today. We care about safety and we care about the environment. Plus we want to use less fossil fuels. This is why everyone invested into Elio Motors. They cared about these things and want to make the earth a better place along with it being easier on the pocket book. There's a reason why Elio uses Green in their logo. The inverters are about making the world a green place and Elio is the first step.

Good thing is that Elio will be using the latest off the shelf technology and the car will be green. Turbo or not, everyone mad an investment into the future for earth and that's something you all need to be proud of. I'm proud that I funded Elio with the IPO as I feel that I'm part of this green Elio revolution. When the STO comes out i suggest you invest too.

Yes the spark plug issue. Seen it first hand on my buddies F-250 with the 5.4 V8. What a crock those coils breaking so easy.

If it is, then who's the money man? And regarding "what the customers want", exactly what is "the one subject that has been on everyone's mind." Please excuse me, I'll old and confused. I too must have missed something. I would think that if funding is solved, it would be shouted from the rooftops. I've seen nothing that leads me to believe that funding is even close.
