I don't know what it cost to get a engine EPA certified, but it ain't cheap!

I know that Roush knows because they have a building full of dynos that run constantly doing EPA cert for many car makers (not just Ford). The heat generated from the dynos actually heats many of their buildings during the winter. Remember, EPA cert is not just the motor either. many people assume that's all.

One question might be what kind of pedal control will be used. Is it a mechanical or electrical design. If electrical, then the acceleration rate could be controlled by an on board computer.

The Elio has DBW and will use TC. I can't think of any car or truck since 2005 that has a throttle cable. Maybe in some third world country. Even the Elio engine had DBW and used TC.

Thanks Rick. I didn't know since the Elio is also considered a motorcycle. Wonder if they will have a switch setting for efficiency vs "ludicrous" modes?

There will be a switch but just like every car out there. TC on or off. The TC, DBW and the stability control are all interlinked. Continental is supplying the ABS unit (which operates as the stability control unit) and the ECU. I'd assume they will include the programming for the EDL (electronic differential lock). All that does is if one driven tire slips, the brake is applied to that wheel and it forces the power to be transferred to the other. That's pretty much how the ESP works anyway but they use torque vectoring.

Unless the engine comes with a turbo, there won't be any magical button for more power. Hopefully there will be a way to get into the systems on the car and change things like the aggressiveness of the TC and EDL like you can on a VW. On my car I've changes the ramp up for the throttle, diff lock, rear diff application and turned down the TC. Now it drives like a real car and when it snows, it's real fun.

1) YES!
2) Depends on the power increase. I would be shocked if a turbo option were offered for $1000 or less. I would be willing to pay more, and since a turbo / high performance model is exactly what I was waiting for I would probably be willing to pay more than others.

Price? That I don't know.
I wonder if they just made it standard and not an option if the price could be kept below $1000.00?
