Oh no! That photo just reminded me that my eldest has gone to Berlin on a stag party this weekend. I hope he returns intact. Last time they went to Amsterdam dressed in orange rubber suits and got temporarily arrested...

Just came back from Barrett Jackson Scottsdale and the Elio booth was mobbed. I spoke to one of the Elio reps and I detected no negativity. We spoke about the surplus equipment and he said GM is interested in buying it since it fits in with their equipment. I also brought up the posibility of Elio loosing the factory and he said that won't happen because a member of the board is an owner. Each vehicle will have a built in hot spot so the tablet will be on line. I wish I had more to share and if I remember something I'll write. I really thought Paul Elio would be there since he lives in Phoenix but he was not.

For the $192,000,000 of taxpayer money given to Fisker automotive it was. I don't think the interest earned on the paid-off $465 million loan to Tesla is enough to cover that loss. (We won't talk about the $650,000,000 in our money lost in other unrecovered handouts to Solyndra and others.)

I don't like the .gov picking winners and losers. I would prefer Elio succeed without government interference, but reality is the m/billionaires running the government have so distorted the markets it's hard to get honest investment and financing without it.
The DOE loan program is doing what it's meant to do by encouraging new technology and allowing new startups to develop alternative energy and high mpg vehicles and bring them to market. The government isn't picking winners and losers. Some companies are successful some are not. Overall, according to my research the DOE's investment portfolio has made money even while losing on Fisker and Solyndra.

Actually, all that gets discussed are the loses. You focus on the individual loses not the big picture. Many venture capital investors lost money on Solyndra. Even when investing cautiously investors win some and lose some. Now if the Gov't program was set up like private investors funds to reap the same reward of stock option benefits that would be better yet!

We benefit from the products that get to market just as we will with Elio Motors if they get loan approval and are successful to production. Quite frankly, without the ATVM loan it appears that we very likely won't see the Elio in our driveways and it's actually an affordable vehicle for the average guy.

Solyndra was crushed by China flooding the market in an attempt to destroy the faltering USA economy.

I mean Socialism.... it was Socialism.

Sorry but that is incorrect. China holds about $1,300,000,000,000.00 in US Government debt ($1.3 trillion). They are the largest holder of US debt. We are also their largest customer. If they destroyed our economy the dollar would collapse and they would lose that investment and their largest source of income.

I don't dispute that they wanted to kill Solyndra. They don't want us to be able to make anything because then we would be less dependent on them. But Solyndra also killed Solyndra because it was bad technology. The government tried to pick the winner without understanding the tech.

its really going to be interesting to see the total when they release the next reservation total .... several things positive and one major negative will have taken place during the time period since the last total release

Sorry but that's incorrect too. Solar is not bad technology and the US market killed Solyndra. Others were and continue building solar cheaper and Solyndra could not compete.

You misunderstand me. I like photovoltaic solar panels, I think they are good idea. Solyndra developed thin-film cells which are also a good idea, but their take on it, their particular technology, was not such a good idea and they hid that fact.

The result was direct loss of $535,000,000.00 of taxpayer money and about $10,000,000 in lost tax revenue when they went bankrupt. (With the FBI raiding their offices and home of the then CEO for a criminal fraud investigation.)

Yes, but not before making a large contribution to Obama's re-election campaign .
