So I seriously don't know how these boards work.
Are they paid?
Don't they have other 'full time jobs'?
Isn't this just an advisory board that meets once a quarter or maybe monthly?
I get why this is good for Elio, but what's in it for him?
Elio motors is a private company the Board is compensated based on corporate productivity. he'd be there for two reasons, he smells money and is probably good, very good, at what he does.

Board members serve as advisers who provide oversight and direction for the executives of a company who are tasked with running the day to day operations.

Board members are generally larger investors in the company or representatives of investors who are paid to represent investor's interests. In some cases board members will be brought in and given an ownership interest in the company as payment for providing the board with their expertise. I do not know which scenario describes this new board member's relationship with EM however he does have the very specialized experience of actually introducing a new vehicle brand to this country, along with it's related business apparatus, so that experience is likely worth having if the price is right.

In one of our prior discussion threads we said, watch the suppliers and the board members to see how things are REALLY going.
So, well, I'm glad we were. :-)

At the time it was introduced, the SmartCar was such a disruptive product line, it was projected as never going anywhere by the most people and many automotive experts. I'd say he broke most all expectations, even if the SmartCar is a bit shrunken these days.
So his support in the EM effort is most desirable. He should also have a good idea of how to maintain the Elio marketing into a long term future.

-I wonder if Jerome thinks he got more help, or just a new supervisor?

Why do you think the engine is not running? The official public starting of the engine has been delayed due to key people not being able to attend.
