I’m hoping HID headlights and driving/fog lights will be offered as a factory option. I’ve got some tough roads to travel on my long commute and need all the illumination I can get.

If HID’s aren’t offered I’m wondering if anyone here has retrofitted an existing car they own and if it was worth the cost and effort.

I have used their kits on motorcycles, cars and trucks and am quite happy. The compact ballast is particularly useful on motorcycles where mounting space is at a premium. One of the first modifications to my new Elio will be an HID conversion.
Just don't be like the a$$clowns on the road, AIM your lamps properly, light the road - not the trees. The bulbs have a nice, sharp beam cutoff. It is unnecessary and rude to blind oncoming drivers so they will look at the 22" rims and 20 series tyres on your Escalade... not that you can see out through the limo tint - GGggrrrrr!... oh, uh - and now back to your regularly scheduled website...

Lights of some kind are needed on the fenders so that oncoming cars of passing cars can gauge the width of the car at night. Someone else suggested reflective tape and that would help. But I'll be looking into lights if they're not offered as standard equipment.

I completely agree. If fender lights are not at least an option I will be looking into getting something aftermarket for mine. I want other drivers to see them. I think the arrow turn signals (like the one's on my car's rear view mirrors) on the rear of the front fender would be cool also.

I just found some LED arrow indicators on Amazon for 9.99 for a pair of them. Super cheap!!

That's a good testimonial since you've used their kits multiple time. I'll check it out and see about ordering a set of low beams for my Honda. Thanks for the input.

I guess I have set my mind to the idea that I would want some 'integrated' mirrors, even if not an absolute need. I mean, I can't say no to extra safety.

I would consider adapting some existing mirror with brighter running lights and signals.

The retro fit HID bulbs are now illegal in UK. Any vehicle fitted with them will fail the annual road worthiness (MOT) test and without a valid MOT, the insurance is null and void. Cars with factory fitted HIDs must by law have self-levelling light units and a lens washing system. The police are beginning to pull drivers of cars with them. It's a £30 ticket offence and drivers have to subsequently show that the car has been put back to standard.

Wheaters, there is only one solution. You must move to the USA.

Hello! New member, but have been following the Elio for awhile. I am getting used to the new design, and I have my own opinions for a few more changes that I shall keep to myself. However, the new location of the headlights has grown on me, but as I was looking at them, I couldn't help but think that this new design is just begging for LED type headlights. I believe that the design of the car, with LED 's could be quite striking. It would also be for a marker light on the fender. Just my 2 cents!

Doug

I believe that it's a great idea for the after market folks. I love LED's and number 6,031 will, in all likelihood, look like a Christmas tree by the time I am done installing LED's. Even though the price has come down on LED's I don't believe they will be part of the production line.
