I am all in for $1,000 with a number of 7761. If the elgin dash had been in the P4 videos, I may have not bothered putting a deposit on the Elio. It is that ugly to me. The media will have a great time with this dash. They will portray it as a result of trying to be cheap in price and also in quality as a result. They will make fun of it. It will be the one thing elio will be laughed at.
The simplicity of the P4 gauge cluster is elegant. These are simple gauges that have been around for a very long time. They must be inexpensive. I do not know why the hideous and difficult to read elgin dash was chose. It is even potentially dangerous because it is more difficult to read. Who came up with this? Some artsy-fartsy person who wanted to show how artistic they are?
I can only hope the aftermarket will offer a better dash. Why can't the one in the P4 at least be offered as a option.

Paul Elio yes the guy who is the car company wants his "dads watch" as a dash. It not even a good watch never mind an instrument cluster. Dont worry though they say you can display the speed on the little LCD window on the cluster which makes it all better.

I can confirm that this is only an initial prototype and will change before production however the overall design is expected to be close to this.

Even if legally a CEL may not be required on the Elio because it is a motorcycle I am sure they will include one when they build a prototype intended for use on the road and in conjunction with the OBD-II system as you mentioned.

The entire gauge cluster is metric which will need to change for US sales. Specifically the speedometer numbers and marks will change quite a lot in the conversion from KPH to MPH. There was also some discussion about possibly making the speedo and tach numbers and corresponding window larger as well but I would not count on that. They are currently 1 CM tall.

We also know that there will be some buttons accessible to rotate the central multi-function display display through several screens which will include the standard odometer and trip meters and also some other vehicle information (possibly temps, time, gear selected, etc..) with specific mention of displaying a vehicle speed readout here as well.

What is the "thing" on the right side? An 8-track player? Isn't this carrying "inexpensive" a bit too far?

A question for someone who has seen the actual mock-up of the Elgin dashboard. Is there enough space on the face of this visual abomination to Velcro my Garmin Nuvi GPS to it and not block the fuel indicator, and other idiot lights?

It appears as though dashboard space is going to be limited, and some states might get "picky" about mounting the GPS onto the windshield. At least, sticking the GPS onto the Elgin would make some ligitimate of the space.

While I haven't seen it in person, I think with the idiot lights clustered around the centers of the two disks, it'd be difficult to not block them in some way by putting something in front of the cluster. I think you'll have enough room to either side of the gauges for anything you'd like to mount. After all, an iPad mini is expected to mount to the right of the cluster if you're getting the Infinite Skyz option.

I felt the same......thought it was ugly.......until someone compared it to a pair of boobs staring at you. I've warmed up a little to the idea behind the Elgin dash. I think they.......it will look better in person. I trust goofyone's opinion after he saw them........it last week.

Question? -
How many cars have you bought just because of the dash that was in them?
How many cars have you NOT bought just because of the dash that was in them?
