Jerry Kroll, EM's CEO, made the offer to match reservation deposit discounts that individuals have on ANY other vehicle such as the Elio, SRK, etc. when they make a $250 Solo Reservation. Interesting marketing strategy.

That's not completely accurate Rick. For some of the Elio reservationists, a $250 deposit is not required for the Solo.
Kroll is giving a discount on the Solo to individuals that have a deposit on another vehicle like the Elio or SRK
The discount can be up to $1000 and can match the deposit the individual has on the other vehicle.
In other words, you can get your Solo discount that matches your Elio reservation deposit...
And secure your place in line for a limited edition 2017 signature series Solo...
And have the usual $250 Solo reservation deposit requirement waived...
Just by showing Electra Meccanica that you've got a deposit on the Elio.
Not sure if your Elio reservation deposit has to be an All-in for that deal on the Solo or not.
I'm sure Sam and/or Chris at Electra Meccanica would be happy to answer that though.
Oh yeah. Though it's rear wheel (belt) drive...
There's no bulge and no Elgin.

I find it hard to believe that the Solo can come so soon, though. Are there any media drive reports/reviews?

Heck, are there any pictures (not just renderings) of a single fully assembled vehicle?
The Solo engineering prototypes were essentially proven Corbin Motor's Sparrows. Several new Solo frames and drive trains have been built by InterMeccanica, the custom coach building partner and successfully track tested by Kroll. The Solo's body panels are being attached and the interior trim is a work in progress. These guys have been building replica Porsches for years and are serious custom car builders and racing enthusiasts. We will see the first fully assembled Solo unveiled Sept. 9th.

I have no doubt that they can produce a few of these and it seems like a good value for the money, if it fits your use case (which it nearly does for me. I'd like to see just a bit better top speed at something like 95+ mph and verify the practical range with AC on). I would definitely be interested if the Elio wasn't so much cheaper to own.
