I would think Elio would be protected against lawsuits, as they've stated clearly they don't recommend pulling a trailer!
Triumph, a co. hving a history greater than hrdly ableson itself wont endorse hauling a trailer, why wud Elio. It is your constitutional right to move about freely; without encomeberances. Geta pair of your own!

i mean to say, if there is a need for change then innovation from all manner of encumbrances should spark a realization of personal sovereignty means personal responsibilities. If you want to tow a house-boat with an P4 Elio, then you will have to foot the bill if it turns bad.
Why does the insurance industry regulate a Constitutional Right to move about freely (rhetorical)

This is the completed P4 chassis.

Thanks very much for posting this shot, Goofyone. It brings a few things to mind:

> I see no reason that a light-duty or even standard hitch could not eventually be incorporated from the factory.
> As much as I might like a hitch, I don't believe the benefits would outweigh the degradation of the frames corrosion protection (rust never sleeps) from after manufacture fabrication. And the body will be attached to that frame with adhesive, probably not heat friendly.
> My trailer, loaded with TWO motorcycles totals less than 1250 lbs. with a tongue weight of 125 lbs. (less than most passengers) and while I wouldn't want to take it over the Rockys, a few hundred miles or less on relatively flat roads should pose no problems unless one is a complete and utter fool. In which case trailer towing and perhaps driving of any sort should be avoided!
> The rear shock cries out for a progressive spring and/or pre-load adjustment - I see a high quality after-market replacement of the spring and shock in my future. Something with a remote reservoir and full compression/rebound adjustment. Fronts, too - can't wait to play, it IS a motorcycle, after all... I anticipate 80+ mpg AND driving fun!

While I believe that a class I or II receiver could be easily and securely installed/attached to the frame pictured above, and while I also believe that it would not (at least when not carrying a passenger) exceed the Elio's load capacity, mounting would require significant modification to the tail wheel cover. The receiver would need to extend outboard if mounted/attached below the frame loop and if mounted/attached above, would quite like exit in the licence plate area - one or the other strategy would be necessary so as not to foul the rear wheel travel. I can also see how it could be done with three attachment points to the Elio frame and a fully external "horseshoe" incorporating the receiver. This, however, would increase the moment arm and decrease stability and load capability. It would also increase weight and cost. The very short trailer attachment point to contact patch dimension is why I think that it is quite possible to safely tow a trailer approaching the weight of the Elio - with care, of course. Unfortunately, I would at this point have to advise folks to wait. A clean and elegant factory solution will be forthcoming, I'm sure - but probably not on this particular model.

They've said that there will be mounting points in the frame on the roof underneath the black strips. How about mount something to the roof that comes down the back of the car to a receiver!? It would look gawdawful, but it would.. ah never mind.

yeah, I switched back and forth between the above frame picture and various body shots a lot... the final iteration isn't out yet but I would be willing to bet that the frame won't change much. We have a year+ before the actual product appears, I will give it more thought as that time approaches and hopefully more info is available.
