The "cat" can be right at the exhaust manifold, the resonator can be used to "really quiet" the exhaust down and no muffler would be needed, as long a you don't have a big diameter exhaust pipe from the resonator.
A muffler is vey restrictive, where as the resonator is practically straight through.

I think I remember the good people at "onedrive" saying they took two sets of photos, one with a phone and another with a point and shoot.

I think the best design is to exit the exhaust immediately behind the engine on the right side and leave the entire bulge off.
Cheaper and looks better.

Awesome pics! I agree...removable...but also "still" a prototype.

Just to clarify, this is the FINAL prototype according to Paul Elio. The next models will be engineering test beds. I would not expect any major design changes at this point. Unless they find that upon impact the exhaust folds into the cabin and rips off the crash test dummy's legs, I would bet the bulge is there for good.

I think it looks fine as is. You may think it's cheaper because "hey, less parts!" but you don't know how an exhaust stack that short will impact their MPG numbers. I used to think that once the smoke left the engine, who cares, dump it overboard, but that's not how high efficiency engines work. It's not that simple is all I'm trying to say. It could be magnitudes more expensive to make the changes you want, and because "it doesn't look good (to you)" isn't a valid reason at this point. We are very late in the game for changes of this nature.

I think the bulge is pretty cool looking myself. Why does a car have to be symmetric. Most cars only have one exhaust sticking out of one side, but we got use to that.

The gas gauge in the engine department makes me wonder. Hopefully, to save money Paul don't make us have to look under the hood to see if its time to fill up.

Believe I read the "Gas Gage" has something to do with either show regulations, or more probable, for future testing procedures.
