EM's done the math, and was confident enough to submit their numbers to the Feds for the SEC filing, so I believe their projected price is attainable. And if attainable, then profitable so long as the Elio actually sells. That seems to be the worry point for a lot of investors: cheap cars don't really sell all that well. Howerver, I think the combination of cheap AND high MPG is what will make Elio's story play out differently than the other value cars that have come and gone. (That, and I think the Elio has a similar sort of endearing quirkyness as the VW Bug, which in itself will make it popular with a certain crowd).

But as has been mentioned in the past: the problem isn't actually finding the money to make that car--it's finding money that doesn't wrest control out of PE's hands. And I believe, if it comes down to the wire, that Paul will give in and give up some control in order to get his dreamcar into production. But I'm all for him holding out for a better option.

Who is this "someone" and would you mind posting a link?
Sorry, I don't recall. So, I'll say it now: they are no longer promoting the anticipated 5 star safety rating based on the fact that the previous marketing clearly stated anticipated 5 star safety rating and that is no longer included as a goal on Elio's webpage: Up to 84 mpg, American Made, and Targeted $6800 base price.

I suspect EM's legal team decided that 5 star safety is not realistically achievable for a motorcycle classified vehicle. The Elio certainly will be safer than your average motorcycle, but likely not safer than a car.

Also, surprising to me is that EM is saying coming fourth quarter 2016 in the upper right hand corner, but state March 2017 in their SEC filing document.

It could be because NHTSA is looking to require self braking, pedestrian avoidance, and some other computer controlled crap part of the Five Star requirement. After all, we have to protect the simpletons who don't watch where they are going or driving from hurting themselves and others.

And don't forget that mandatory rear-view camera. Apparently, turning our necks only works when their is a highway accident to ogle at.

Backup cameras have more to do with reducing the number of children who get run over in driveways and parking lots. Most of these would not have been prevented if people turned their heads, because children are not always visible behind a car or truck.

Every week in the US, fifty kids are backed over. Two per week are killed.

I love the backup camera in the minivan. It was the one feature that we decided was a Must Have when we went shopping. As McBrew says, it's not about turning your head. It's naive to think that turning your head when driving such a large vehicle will keep you, and everyone else, safe in all circumstances. There is simply a HUGE area that you just can't see in either the mirrors or windows. Cars? Telephone poles? Sure. Small kids that don't pay attention? Not a chance. Given that I have two small kids, the extra expense of the camera is a price I am more than willing to pay to make sure that they are safe.

Also, that backup camera makes backing into parking spots SOOOOOO easy!

It's not just small kids; I get more adults walking and driving behind me when I'm backing up then I ever had in the past; they are just oblivious to the world around them. The one spot I hate to go into here is the Albertson's parking lot; it is the worst!! I've had more people walking and standing behind me backing out of a stall than anywhere else; most times staring at their phones.

My Leaf, because EVs are so quiet, has a backup alarm whenever you put it into reverse. The funny thing is, this seems to make people notice it more than when I'm backing up in the noisy gas car (a Rav4 with a significant hole in the tailpipe that I keep meaning to patch up).
