I'm not a Vikings fan but I seriously feel bad for that kicker. The kicker shouldn't even have to be put in that game-on-the-line situation anyway if the offense does it's job. The offense failed all day, just mustering up enough yardage to sneak in some field goals.

I agree to a point; but kicking the ball for points, for the start of a half and for giving the to ball the other team after their side scores is their job.
And they get paid quite well for it. For a few seasons Oakland had real problems with their kickers; they lost more games because they couldn't find a kicker that could consistently put it between the uprights. So in 2000 the Oakland Raiders drafted Sebastian Janikowski 17th overall in the first round.
That made him the 4th kicker that went in the first round. He's still playing and from the notes I found "On August 2, 2013, Janikowski signed a four-year contract extension with the Oakland Raiders for $19 million over five years, including $8 million guaranteed" (Bio on him

I do feel bad for the Vikings kicker, but it comes with the job. Sometimes you're the hero, sometimes you're the goat; at least he has the right helmet for it. :becky:

All the remaining games should be good. All the toughest teams made it through. Seahawks got their miracle. Will be keeping my fingers crossed for Panthers and Cardinals to win and move on to the NFC Championship. Not a fan at all of the Packers or Seattle. I also can't stand the Steelers or Broncos so I don't care about that game. I hope the Patriots win, but should the Chiefs pull through I wont feel too sour about it. In that case I'd root for them to make it to the SB. Ultimately, I'm hoping for it to be either Patriots vs Panthers or Chiefs vs Cardinals.

Kickers seem prone to slumps, Walsh has been in one this year. He's proven to be a solid kicker in the past. Whether MN chooses to stick with him is anyone's guess however.

Keep in mind GB's kicker Mason Crosby went thru a stretch 2 years ago where he couldn't hit the broad side of a barn from inside it, now he's back to being one of the top kickers in the league.

Walsh's holder also didn't do him any favors, pointing the laces right at him on the botched kick.

This concludes my support for the hated purple team across the river.

On one of the post game shows today, they showed that on 2 of his previous kicks, the laces were in the same place; he made both of those.
But the head game Richard Sherman pulled on him on the kick before the missed one was that he almost got a hand on it; Sherman is fast; and he came charging at him on the last kick; Welsh choked thinking that it might be blocked.

This is not the first time Seattle has won a game because of a missed kick late in a game; last time was a few years ago in a game between Seattle and Dallas; Dallas kicker kicked the ball wide right in that game

Previous weekend's games, all won by the visiting team. For this year anyway, home field advantage? Nnnnnnope:

KC 30, Hou 0 - I was nervous at halftime when Hou had 4 turnovers yet KC only led 13-0. Those worries dissipated when it was 27-0 after one play into the 4th qtr. KC was able to run plays that got the ball quickly away from J.J. Watt, and Hou's offense couldn't hold on to the ball.

Pit 18, Cin 16 - Cincy had the game won, and then the meltdown of epic proportions, during a play by Burfict, and after that play by Jones. 30 penalty yards later, ow-wich. Steelers didn't shake hands with the Bengals after the game, sort of a classless act but a sign of the tension between the teams. Yes, Cin RB Hill fumbled the ball late in the game, but it was on the Pitt 9 yard line. The Cincy defense had their chances to stop an injured Rothlisberger, but couldn't get the Pitt offense stopped.

GB 35, Was 18 - It was 11-0 Wash with 2 minutes gone in the 2nd qtr. 'Skins had garnered a safety and a TD, but had missed the extra point and couldn't get the ball in the end zone after first and goal at the 1/2 yard line. Multiple times in his pro and college career, Desean Jackson has been near the end zone and screws it up, badly. Who knew they wouldn't score until 9:41 left in the 3rd qtr, and wouldn't score again. Who knew they'd allow GB to start rolling and Aaron Rodgers to use the hurry-up offense to get two 12-men-on-the-field penalties and get their first score. Wash did lead 18-17 in the 3rd when they scored, but it was all Pack after that.

Sea 10, Min 9 - Oh man, you gotta feel for the Vikings and their kicker Blair Walsh. It's brutally frigidly cold, temp got UP to 0 degrees at one point in the game. Windchill of negative umpteen degrees. Walsh kicks FGs of 22, 43, and 47 yds. He'll be the hero if he kicks this last "chip shot" of 27 yds. Any golfers in here? We all know how tough a chip shot can be. He hooks it left. I've hooked a few drives in my day, and it was 80 degrees and gorgeous outside. Seahawks survive and advance. Russell Wilson pulls a rabbit out of the hat in the 4th qtr, kudos to him.
