EM is asking OUR government for a $230 Million dollar low interest loan. There should be vehicle validation and payback indicator requirements met before the application warrants approval.........with strings attached.......or chains for that matter..............before handing over that amount of money. The ATVM loan discussion is relevant to Elio, but your personal opinions are political. The DoE is waiting on EM for the validation and that is a good thing. The ball has been held in EM's court for quite some time now. The DoE is waiting patiently just like we are.

A political opinion would imply that I am favoring one party over another.
I loath and despise all lawyers and all bureaucrats equally.
Keep in mind, The requirements Elio is now trying to meet were just promulgated in June of this year.
Not by Congress. By some bureaucrat.
That would be like the IRS changing the rules because some bureaucrat didn't like your views.
It's tough trying to follow the rules when they're graved in Jello.

When GM changed to the new model while I was there, they had one partial body on a skid that they took to a few stations. I suppose that was because there weren't a whole lot of changes. But, the thought of needing 100 production vehicles in order to start production doesn't make sense. It hurts my head.
I agree too Ty. Also since EM is now embracing the stamped metal for body, don't they need a series of stamping dye, (I've seen it on tv) where the first dye makes the initial shape, the 2nd dye trims the edges, etc. which I would assume cost a ton of money if the purpose is to automate to increase production. I would assume it will be in house too, am I right?

I don't think the 100 vehicles are needed to start production. I think the 100 vehicles are EVIDENCE of production for purposes of the ATVM loan. Remember that the loan is used primarily to expand production of advanced/innovative vehicles meeting the requirements. It is not for proof-of-concept. So to issue a loan to expand production, Elio Motors has to show they are actually producing vehicles for commercial sale. Hence "production" of the 100 vehicles is (I believe) intended to meet this requirement.

Another requirement for the loan is market acceptance, which is where the purchase commitments come in.

Hey, if those numbers are good enough for you, I guess it's good enough for me!:D
Well said. Some people understand start-ups and their numbers and some people don't. There couldn't possibly be potential demand far in excess of reservations because we live in an, "I WANT MINE NOW!" society.

Besides, the last I heard, there's only about a 6-7% market penetration who even know Elio is out there.

Correct. I wouldn't be surprised if the 100 were used as proof.

Paul: "Here are 100 Elios that we sold for $6,800. It cost us $5,800 to build each one at a profit of $1,000 each. We expect profit to increase as options are purchased. Elio will clear 10% on all accessories. We have 65,000 committed purchasers waiting their chance to get an Elio."

Aren't the 20-25 E's and V's used for proof of concept and validation (for the ATVM loan approval) prior to building the 100 fleet sale Elio's for road testing by everyday drivers? I'm still patiently waiting to see a video of the first E-Build scream around the test track before crashing into a wall.

The first E build was delivered and four more were in the works. Then they announced they would use steel for the body and I haven't heard anything on the build of the rest of the E-series. If they had anticipated a composite body, would this change cause a delay and if so, how significant? I had thought the E series builds would progress much faster than they have.

Ever think that they have, but EM hasn't said anything about it? They aren't required to report all information to the general public / Reservation holders every day; as you have seen in the past; they release information as they see fit to release.
They could have a dozen of them done and in testing; or they could have focused on the 4 and are waiting to see if they need to make changes to the areas they are testing.
