Update: 2nd one broke in the same manner as the 1st one!!! I made it a whole 65 miles on the odo.
Wow!! Least this time you got more miles on it. I think you should try for a refund or if you that type of person, sell it to a sucker. Shame. You should give an in detail experience of the breakdown as you did last time.

Unfortuanately, there is NOTHING else equivalent available. I might have to have an automotive or bike machine shop redesign it a bit.
You don't have to spend your own money to fix, modify or redesign it instead get your money back as it's obvious after this 2nd one failed too! Or have them fix it again. For what it's worth, it's drive system is no different from a golf cart- an electric motor powered by lead acid battery. Any competent golf cart dealer/service can do it. It's a shame because it's a good looking 3wheeler with doors and roof.

But if I want to end up with EXACTLY what I want, getting my money back defeats the purpose.

You've had two of the same vehicle and both failed the exact same way with less than 70 miles on them, they quit building them and dumped all spare parts and such on a 3rd party that I think you said you don't know who they are. I'd get my money back, and call it a day. This saga has not gone well and doesn't sound like it's going to get any better.

True. That means you're letting the manufacturer and the dealer off the hook from all responsibillty and refund (as well as any other problems that may surface in the future) as soon as you redesign or change anything in it's current config. I guess if money's no object, it's all about what drives you.

Yeah, the money is not an issue.

Well great, if money is not an issue, then by all means keep us informed. It is an entertaining thread of "how not to design or build something". I have never heard of such a convoluted journey, nor of an end consumer with the patience of Job.

As it seems the reoccurring problem is in the very poorly designed/inadequate drive unit, and as you indicate you want to keep the vehicle, I don't see any solution other than replacing the complete drive unit with something more robust. I suspect you will be tinkering with it for years. Good luck, you have quite a task cut out for you.
