Wrap That Rascal

Ya... I was quoting for a quality wrap. Mass producing them would cut down on material cost. The reduced body size reduces square feet of material needed but the labor to fit it well remains pretty constant. Again though if they were slapped on at the factory they could cut corners. Me personally I'll stick with the basic paint or gel coat whatever it technically is.

My understanding is that the color is throughout the panel in the process................does wonders for scratches...... :)

Having listened to a friend in the biz, I'd guess if you left off the fenders and the rear wheel cover which would be the most labor intensive parts you'd be in the $2500 range.

It seems like you could get it painted for that kind of change. Just go find a custom motorcycle painter and have your choice or graphics, air brush, even metal flake. Cost will depend on how much you would do but applying some customization over the factory finish followed by more clear coat really shouldn't cost that much. Heck, I had a whole bike (tank, fenders, tool boxes, frame, luggage) custom painted for less than $1000.

Incorrect, if you view the photos of it being made, the panel is grey, then gets painted. Someone else here that was familiar with the material said that injected color doesn't really come out well.

This is true, the panels themselves could be made in many colors however the issue is that the color is not car finish quality. To achieve the high gloss colors we are used to they need to be painted via traditional methods.

Plastics Research Corporation is making the panels: http://www.prccal.com/

Depending on the wrap material it can be easily repaired or even removed without any surface damage. On the other hand some material is a bear to remove and causes damage. We do wraps for some of our customers so they can remove it and sell the used vehicle. Wrapping a small utility vehicle is 10-12 hours of 1-2 person work. It can come out great looking or....... Material is not cheap and it's not a do-it-yourself job. We wrap in one color and add text and logos. Other customers have wild graphics but so far they have purchased the material and supplied it to us for instal.

Here is a chance to go online, research and learn about wraps, pick out and show us what you think would be your favorite. Here are some examples I think would look cool.

Let your kids decorate your car with dry erase, every time you take it out it will be different or just white.

I don't want anyone writing on my Elio! Where is that alarm that says "I'm being attacked" or something to that effect. LOL :-) Z

I'd have to see it, but a satin or muted CF black wrap on the hood might be nice, since I'm contemplating an homage to my old yellow Opel. The problem I had with the black paint (standard on the Rallye model) was that it faded over time and boy did it show fingerprints. It had to be polished (not waxed) regularly. Now that pair of tape stripes, seen here on a red car down the side and across the deck, would take some planning.
