With plastic body panels, suppose I'm wearing fluffy wool pants and am rubbing back and forth on my Elio while pouring gas down the side of it, smoking, and talking on my cell phone...

Someone here said they like to go inside while the pump fills their car and are concerned if they do that in their Elio... How long will it actually take to fill that tiny tank? Besides, going inside to shop while your car is just parked by the pump is being quite the ass to anyone who comes up to get gas and has to wait on you.

If you are "wearing fluffy wool pants and am rubbing back and forth on my Elio while pouring gas down the side of it, smoking, and talking on my cell phone" catching fire is the least of your worries by the sounds of it!

I rode my BRP to work today stopped about half way to fill up the tank (more riding later this evening) and guess what, the engine and exhaust were good and hot, and the gas tank is even plastic, I even spilled a little, and didn't blow up. View attachment 5929 :D
But you probably weren't wearing fluffy wool pants... just saying.

I think if the P5 is a finished, polished example of what the Elios on the street will be. Interior trim, dash and pannels installed. With all the noise dampening and safety features in place. The auto magazine and street publications as well as media of all sorts should go gaga over the thing. Public awareness and attention will skyrocket and the remaining funding and thus production should be no problem.
It is of utmost importance the P5 be carried off well.

I agree it should represent the actual production model. But for the tours, should it be the "This is what you get for $6800" model [bone stock], or the spiffed up version showing off the accessories available [at extra cost]?

The business model for cars
is show 'em loaded. (1) The
Elio isn't a car. (2) Paul Elio
has turned the car model on
it's head....

So you're saying, show it 'bone stock' on the tours, and maybe a mock-up of the accessories that would be available at the Elio outlet store?

[I may have read too much into your comment...been known to do that.]

I actually like the bone stock idea - this is what $6,800 buys. For investors I think it would be enough of a tease of all the farkles they could up sell.

Show it bone stock but maybe with the AMT so journalists can actually drive it. Then, have on hand several options... maybe the Skyzmatic, an illuminated doorsill, a lighted hood ornament, an optional fender. Then, Paul can give his "I hate the bundle approach" speech and explain that you can do all this option stuff at the time of purchase or any other time as it is all designed to be changeable.

Well, maybe you'd want to include the skyzmatic system and the cameras that can record everything around the Elio. I can see Paul sitting in an interview... Close your eyes and imagine this:

Paul: Yes, I'll let you take our Red P5 for a spin. Let me check it out on my cell phone first. That's right. My Elio can show me what the parking lot looks like before I head out to it. (Shows picture from cell phone on the big screen and you can see Paul Vassilio hiding next to the Elio with a comically large foam wrench in his hand). I can see that there is someone hiding beside the car. Maybe I'd want to delay going to the parking lot at this time. Only Elio will let you see that.
Interviewer: Wow, Paul. That is too cool. Is that standard on the Elio?
Paul: No, it isn't. That is one of the options available from one of our Blue Chip suppliers. But here's the thing. Let's say you don't want to put the money into this option when you buy the vehicle but later, maybe after you've saved so much money on fuel since the Elio gets 84 MPG, you decide you'd like to have it. You can do that.
Interviewer: {with an astonished look on her face} You can?
Paul: You sure can. And what's more is that you don't have to buy an entire bundle to get it. Let's go check it out.
