I do not believe we have been given any official weight ratings or really any official estimates for this. The only thing I can think of is that Elio Motors has said they have designed the vehicle to safely carry 2x 220 lb people so 550 lbs for payload may be a good estimate.
It's a good thing my wife weighs half of what I do other wise we might be overloaded......LOL

Ouch! I could not put them on myself anyway but I sure like the idea if they really work as claimed. :) Z
I checked Amazon just out of curiosity. The closest thing they had was a Thule low profile chain that was even more expensive. I don't the sizes they listed to compare but it was interesting to see what is available. I have already made the decision that I will carry chains but if I have to put them on I will simply turn around and go back home. The issue only happens once a month when I got through the mountains to Medford on I-5. In the 4 years I have been going there I have yet to have to put the cable chains I have on my car. The roads are kept in good condition.

I bought the cables for my Camry on a trip over Donners Pass when I lived in Reno and had a meeting in San Francisco to attend. It wasn't supposed to snow but I ended up stopping in the last community going up to Donner and getting the cables for $25. It cost me $20 at the CHP stop point to have them put on and then another $15 on the other side to have them removed. That stretch has private approved contractors who do this whenever there is a big snow storm which is frequently in that part of the country. The CHP waves you over, you get in line to have one of the contractors put on the chains or cables and then you are on your way at maximum 35 mph. Very interesting experience once but I have no desire to have another one. LOL :-) Z

I'm 283. My wife is 165. That equals 448 lbs. 551 minus 448 equals 53 lbs extra. How many peanut butter and jelly sandwiches is that?

PS However it would be nice to get some serious rhetoric on the "payload" subject. However Goofyone seems to be firm on that 550 lbs. Thanks, Goofy.
