I just ordered a pair of these Bluetooth Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems for my vehicles and hope to eventually use some on my new Elio:

https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/fobo-tire-world-s-first-all-bluetooth-smart-tpms/x/8622646

The system has four tire pressure monitors which attach to the valve stems of you car and communicate with a base station in your car and/or directly with your phone via Bluetooth 4.0.

For those of you who may not be aware maintaing correct tire pressure is both good for safety and your wallet. It is good for safety as your vehicle will handle best at it's recommended settings. As for your wallet, most people would not notice if their tires were off by 6 PSI, however this is nearly 20% less than what is recommended for most vehicles and if you continued to use this the tires this way you could lose up to 25% of your tire life due to increased drag and overheating. Also you lose about 0.4 percent of you fuel economy for each PSI of under inflation so at just 6 PSI of under inflation you are costing yourself 2.4% of your fuel economy.

we use a system made by Pressure Pro http://www.advantagepressurepro.com/index.asp?PageTypeId=3&ProductTypeId=1 that can monitor all 12 tires on our truck, camper, and dingy trailer .... my plan is to take the monitor and enough sensors for use when running an Elio and for any trailer it may tow .... as noted in another thread, we us KTB tire balancing fluid http://ktbproducts.com/id3.html in our vehicle tires .... as the tires wear, the fluid shifts and maintains the balance .... this tire monitor system has proven to work well and without a spare I believe it would be even more important to have a tire pressure monitoring system

Good idea but I suggest you might have the wheel balance checked if you fit these. Even the weight of a CR2032 battery might be enough to affect it, let alone the weight of the valve cap unit as well. Especially so on a lightweight tyre and wheel combination that the Elio will have

Good point about balance guys as I forgot to mention that. I am fortunate that I have access to a friends shop so I can easily mount and balance so I do tend to overlook it. I also already use a similar product to what Jim recommended on my vehicles which balances and even seals holes. I use Ride-On Tire Sealant & Balancer. http://www.ride-on.com/

Jim, I actually use the same brand TPMS on my dually tow rig with 10 tires and it works great however it is quite expensive so it is not ideal to outfit every vehicle. In your case where you already have it and need it for your tow rig it works out very well!

As we all have seen, the Elio has a "hidden" rear tyre. Some owners might neglect the regular checking of the tyre condition and pressure so a run flat tyre and/or monitoring system of some sort would be a very good idea. The Elio will have ABS and it wouldn't be too difficult to use this to provide a tyre monitoring system. My BMW has this facility. The system monitors and compares the wheel speed signals from the ABS sensors and any discrepancy (which occurs if a tyre deflates, due to the reduction in rolling radius) gives a red warning light.

It happened to me on my trip home from picking up my used BMW - scared the life out of me! One tyre pressure was down a couple of psi, nothing more.

In the USA since 2008 all automobiles must have a TPMS system however the law says the system does not need to warn you unless one tire is 25% lower than the recommended level. Also the inexpensive indirect ABS TPMS systems do not give you a direct tire pressure but only warns you if one tire is worse than the others or the expected standard. By the way 25% reduction from 34 PSI would be 26 PSI which many people would not even notice when driving however would lead to about a 2.5% loss in fuel mileage and an increase in tire wear.

Also as the Elio is a motorcycle it does not have to comply with the TPMS law. Even if EM makes an ABS based indirect TPMS available as an option I would still prefer a direct TPMS system which reads the exact tire pressure as this is best for fuel efficiency and tire wear.

I am guessing that everyone has forgotten how to use a simple tire pressure gauge?
Considering some of the ages of members here, they simply, like me, can no longer see them. I need a digital readout but then I'm not sure I could get down to see it and read it. Growing mature can sometimes put a bit of a dent in our physical abilities. :-) Z
