I am more nervous about me clipping someone or something else with those wheels. I usually use my mirrors as a reference when passing close to something.

Given the uniqueness of the car's design in today's environment, I agree with the concerns about other drivers' actions, as well as our own, as we learn the "spatial needs" (homonym pun) of the Elio. Let's add one more concern: Parking lot attendants unfamiliar with the car. Here's the url for a Youtube entitled, "Valet destroys clutch in Lamborghini.

I built my Liege sports car over twelve years ago and have covered over 40,000 miles in it including on and off road competition work.

I can assure everyone that having the front wheels out on "outriggers" like the Liege and the Elio makes driving easier, not more difficult! You can "place" the wheels precisely where you want them and are far less likely to bump into something than with a car with normal bodywork.

One of the early Elio videos showed a gentleman who had driven the Elio. He said adjusting to the Elio was the easy part but going back to driving on only one side of the car was much more difficult. I look forward to experiencing and proving you right. :-) Z

You can see the front wheels from the drivers seat. It was height adjustable in the prototype. There isn't much that you can do about folks that park by sound other than park as far out as you can and there is always the one...

Elio has already stated that open fenders will be an option. I think the basic platform will be plenty flexible for one to personalize to his or her own taste. Since the body is essentially a shell hanging into the frame rather than a stressed member (like the Pontiac Fiero) I would expect to see some aftermarket company offer a complete body kit. They already have kit cars using Mazda Miata donor cars. Can't see why it wouldn't also happen with the Elio if enough are sold.

I hate the new fenders, they look like over kill, this is not what I paid $1,000 for, this takes the stream line look away from the Elio makes it to bulky, if dirt gets on my roof I can just add mud flaps or I can wash it off!! when I pick my Elio up it had better have the fenders on it that I have paid for!!! where I can still see my tires. I want the solid color not a to tone ether I went all in for the lime green and I do not want any thing else!!! come on Elion motors get real stop messing up a great car, you are going from great to crappy, stop changing this car the lights are awesome but you do not need to change anything else. if we want to change our cars just give us the option to do so, THANK YOU........... foxeys_fox

I like the fenders; the ability to slice the air to maximize mpg, provides protection for the wheel/rim & tire, this will protect/shield the brakes also. They fit the look of the Elio (exceptional high mpg auto cycle) which is going to return us with 84 mpg. Minimize wind resistance, reduce drag, The Elio shapes are cutting drag and wind resistance for the purpose to maximize mpg. This is a fully functional auto cycle getting us the 84 mpg. Looks great to me, thank you Paul Elio and the Elio Team!

if you don't like the fenders then remove them! it wouldn't be that difficult to make different ones...........I mean you could use trailer fenders for that matter. i'm sure some (including me) will customize the Elio to some extent......I don't drive anything that is stock anyway! I really want this car for my daily driver, and I don't really like the new fenders either but if I want 84mpg then that's what I have to deal with. anything that can be bolted on will come off. let's just be excited that Paul Elio and his team of engineers have given America an option and an opportunity to save some hard earned $$$$$ and give us a super fuel efficient car at a price pretty much anybody can afford!

I like the idea of two sets of fenders, the original ones (E4) for highway travel and a set of open ones for city driving.
Of course the ketch is the wheels will have to be like the ones on the E3 aluminum or chrome. I am afraid the stock ones are not.
As far as clipping something the thing is only 5 1/2' wide. You'd have to work at it.
