Actually, I think the news that Continental will be opening up a tire manufacturing facility in the United States because Elio is a pretty big deal. Think about that: an American startup convinced a foreign manufacturer to move production to the states, creating even more American jobs in the process.

I see that in the long run but I also see a successful launch of the 100 pre-prods that the positive results will quickly move EM to production much sooner next year most probably the first quarter. It will be uniquely popular once they're seen on the road that the rush to make a reservation might equal or even surpass the 300K plus reservations for the Tesla 3! The projected base price alone is just too tempting to pass up.

Well, here's a thought that's been banging its head on the window of my fancy:

Earlier this month, in the wake of Brexit, I heard a bunch of reports on NPR from Northern England about how this industrial base of England had been seeing plants close, etc. for the past 30 years. That was set to turn around, with a number of foreign firms investing in factories there. Now that England won't have such easy access to European markets, many of those investments are up in the air.

Seeing as how Paul Elio has/is turning a former GM assembly plant into an Elio assembly plant, what do you think are the chances, in the next 5 years, of an Elio production facility opening up in England? Think of it: a history of small auto production, reputation of quality, a workforce eager to work. This is the nation that produced the Mini, so it's not like they automatically reject small cars (like so many are expecting the American market to do.) And Brexit or no Brexit, the European market is a quick trip through the Chunnel away. The biggest problem I can see is re-engineering the Elio so the steering wheel is on the right (passenger) side of the car. ;)

In all seriousness, if you look at the pictures of the E-series frames you can see that the possibility of a right-side door has been engineered into the Elio from the start! So making an English Elio (we'll call it the "Lord Elgin Edition") would not be very difficult at all!

I believe they get some kind of testing, because when I bought my first scooter, it had an MPG rating. After some digging, I found that the MPG ratings for all two-wheeled motor vehicles require using a 150 lb. driver. On a Honda or a Harley, 150 lbs might not make a significant difference; but on a scooter that explained why my MPG was so much lower than the rated MPG.

(Still, I was getting 3 times the MPG what my car was getting, and it only cost me about 0.8 gallons of gasoline every other week. I would love to have that scooter back.)
I still have a 1957 Cushman Eagle that I sometimes use to get around (weather permitting).

Having reliable electric systems would baffle the workers and threaten the public!
