It boggles my mind how are government will dole out billions of dollars to foreign countries with no chance of repayment. But, an American company trying to employ American workers requests a mire $250 million must jump through endless hoops.

As normal, our government is clueless and out of touch with the needs of Americans.

I believe in America. I believe in helping those in our country that wish to continue to make our country strong. This is one of the many reason that I support Elio Motors.
The government is clueless and out of touch? Could it be it's the people that are clueless and out of touch? EM will stand a good chance of their ATVM Loan Application approval if they would get just ONE E Series built and tested.....their proof of concept............ to verify the claims made in their DoE ATVM Loan Application. Also, proof that they are able to repay the loan. I respect the Government officials for waiting on loan verification before they dole out millions of dollars. It is exactly what responsible government should be doing. Handing over money without verification to simply support a concept and/or a dream would be clueless.

Rickb, I would agree with your analysis except our government has handed over billions of dollars to foreign countries with no assurances of ever getting the money back. I'm talking decades of these handouts. They are going to start getting their shit together with a little American company trying to hire American workers.

The ATVM loan may require a complete and final design requiring no further development to go into production. The only next step is production.

The final design will not occur until all E series testing has been completed and Roush has done all of their work. This will probably be after the 100 preproduction vehicles have been returned, evaluated, and any resulting design changes tested and applied to the design.

Edit: The DOE may not issue any decision until this point.

I respect and don't disagree with your view. The politics of where our tax dollars go is to complicated and political to discuss here. It seems the vast majority of the approved ATVM loans have proven successful with only a couple of defaults perhaps making the ATVM approval process more stringent as a result.

If EM proves they meet the qualifications.......... they certainly deserve and no doubt will get the ATVM Loan which is a good thing. If EM meets all the qualifications and are denied the loan it would be a clueless political scenario. The ball seems to be in EM's E-Build park.

As far as I know, 75 mpg highway equals ATVM loan. E-25 series should be able to verify and blow out that threshold soon.

Also, keep in mind that the test formula used by the DOT is less strict than the EPA's test cycle. Elio's estimates that they can get 84mpg on the EPA test cycle, which would equal about 95mpg according to the standards used for the ATVM loan.
