That aspect is one of the big reasons Elio will be successful. A simple, economical, (cheap to repair) commuter autocycle. Paul has explained how the integrated "technology" (even in high dollar cars) become obsolete within just a few years. Everything on the Elio is "tried and true", solid engineering.

I would argue that a commuter car that gets 84mpg is "advanced technology" whether or not any new technology is used to achieve it.

Well, except for the motor, that's new, but it is made up of existing technology, just used in a different way.

It's existing technology that is just packaged different. If it had some new technology for the engine, transmission or chassis/body construction, then I could see it. If the chassis was made out of a bamboo composite (which can be as strong as carbon fiber), epoxy/hemp pressed body panels, plastic engine block and plastic transmission, I could see that would be some advanced technology because it's not used in cars today. That would shave a pretty good amount of weight off of it and get the mileage up. As of now, I have no idea what the mileage is because it's stated at, "up to 84mpg". As we all know, that can be from 0-84.

Even things like the engine and transmission are pretty big for what they are. It really should be the size of what is used in a motorcycle. A good example is to see the guys that race a Geo Metro with the Yamaha 900cc motorcycle engine and transmission. There's lots of space around that engine and it's a 4 cylinder. Also, expect it to need work nearly constantly. Taking a drivetrain that already needs a lot of maintenance and putting it in a bigger vehicle sounds like a bad idea to me.

If you don't even realize that Elio is an Internal Combustion Engine, how are we to take you seriously about anything?
