Much prefer safe to sorry, even though you see them being used on motorcycles quite frequently! I'll take a bye and make do with the trunk space.
Which won't be that unreasonable. I think all the guys from the military thread need to start a thread on how to pack absurd amounts of gear into a duffel bag.

While we can't say for sure until we have the vehicle in some cars there is a dedicated button or menu option and in many others disabling stability control is just a series of steps you follow before turning the car on. Its frequently something like turn the key to the on position three times in a row and tap the gas pedal then start the car.
That I can do. I was afraid I was going to have to crawl under my Elio to do something. Whew! What a relief. LOL :-) Z

Point missed! How the heck do I get my bike into a duffel bag........even a folding bike. Even if I happen to get the bike in the bag I won't have room left for my absurd amounts of remaining gear. I am smart enough to pack efficiently to my available storage space. The point was that engineering should have allowed for purchasing an optional aftermarket hitch for trailers or racks.

I also have an Elio co-reservationist friend plan on purchasing a small motorcycle pop up tent trailer to be used at future Elio Rally Events........apparently that's not going to work out for him........or will it? We shall see for certain only when the final production prototype specs are released.

I'd be yelling, "I'm on the ground and can't get up!" If ground work IS necessary I'll just have my wife of 46 years do it providing she can get out of the backseat after a 300 mile trip. LOL

The turning it off is supposition. Others that were in on the conference call that started this are implying that the designers think the 3-wheeled configuration cannot safely tow with out the stability control.

As Michael said reprogramming would push back the release date and they don't want to do that.

Therefore the Elio at least the first generation cannot safely tow in the eyes of it's designer. Bash away but it's not my call.

I would think that IF there was any kind of frame reachable from the rear, B&W, Reece, or one of those other companies will design a hitch to mount to it. Zelio, I would bet that it would be easy enough to find someone to hook it up for you. The problem would be if Elio doesn't have any kind of frame to the rear of the back tire that you could connect to. I think for such a small trailer weight, one of those slot receivers would work in place of the much larger reciever hitches.

Either way, we'll probably have to wait a little bit till the aftermarket figures out the Elio. J.C. Whitney will surely jump on the cheap-parts market for the Elio! Plus, we'll have to wait to see the final Elio design.

Unless the designers of the vehicle say definitively that it won't be safe to tow with. As if this moment this is the word we have. Second hand word yes but that's pretty much how we get everything.

I'd have to call 911 because I don't have a wife. Or a husband, for that matter. I hope your wife is smart enough to hit you over the head (gently) near every rest area so she can get out and walk around a bit. Makes a huge difference in the results at the end of the trip. Believe me, I know! I have a friend who rides with me on trips to Portland for medical appointments (we make sure to schedule for the same day and time). She can take RideLink but prefers me because I stop and RideLink does not. My doctor warned me that stops are important to avoid blood clots in my aging legs. Besides, I like to be able to walk at the end of the day. No stops, no walks. LOL :-) Z

Interesting way of interpreting what goofyone said. I trust Paul Elio and I trust goofyone to be straight with us. I definitely did not get the same message you did. :-) Z

Paul is saying the Elio will not be able to tow because of issues with the stability system. What's left to interpret?
