Things that you give up when paying a third the price of another vehicle.
That's the right attitude. It makes more sense than trying to deny the facts and to argue with reality. I know my wife & I have long ago mastered traveling with minimum space. From the looks of the military service thread there's a few people who have packed a duffel bag before. If one want's to live with this he can.

While I think it is unfortunate and shortsighted that it will not be set up to accommodate a trailer personally I can live with it. I do recognize that towing a small light trailer is very important to others

If Elio had done the upfront engineering to support the ' after market' hitch option as they said..............it would not have increased the price in ANY WAY. There will be many other options available to Elio owners that don't increase the price of the base model.........but apparently the vehicle won't support the aftermarket hitch I would buy over other non-functional after market options other owners don't have to 'give up'.

If I am driving my Elio on a 'long distance' trip for whatever the reason I need space for a suitcase, camping gear, or receiver hitch for my bike rack. I can get by without towing a trailer but the hitch rack was important to me for my use of this affordable/ functional vehicle. Functional add on cost options important..........cosmetic and appearance add on cost options......not so much for me personally.

1. The bottom line here is if you want to tow, load, or carry a ton of crap; buy a vehicle that is designed to tow and carry a ton of crap.
2. The Elio is primarily designed for single occupant COMMUTING.
3. If you need to tow or carry a ton of crap on your commute, see #1.
I don't commute and am buying the Elio for long, high mpg, eco-friendly, fun, cross country trips with my motorcycle buddies. Perhaps I can only afford one vehicle in retirement and would like it to be as FUNctional as possible which by the way Elio claimed they were going to do. One man's crap is another man's necessities. Buying a FUNctional Elio commuter, when I don't commute, hardly makes any sense at all.

If there's no one in the back seat you've got more room than your motorcycle buddies. If you have a second with you you learn to pack small. No biggie.

Thank you Rickb. My sentiments exactly. The Elio will be my only vehicle therefore I need to be able to tow a small pop-up tent trailer. I pack light but can't sleep on the ground so need a bed. Now the question is, who is going to volunteer to teach me how to disable whatever it is I need to disable in order to tow that <300# trailer. And it had better be within reach without my having to get on the ground because that is also not an option. LOL :-) Z

While we can't say for sure until we have the vehicle in some cars there is a dedicated button or menu option and in many others disabling stability control is just a series of steps you follow before turning the car on. Its frequently something like turn the key to the on position three times in a row and tap the gas pedal then start the car.

Much prefer safe to sorry, even though you see them being used on motorcycles quite frequently! I'll take a bye and make do with the trunk space.
