My choices in no particular order would be:
  • Creamsicle
  • Yellow (if this is a real possibility)
  • White (if I could have the company I work for pay for a body wrap with the companys logo and pay me a few thousand to do it. Billboards in my area can range from $5-10,000 per month so it wouldnt be an outrageous thing to ask.)

The reason why yellow is not likely to be offered is purely because of cost. Yellow is by far the most expensive car paint color and to keep the standard price down as low as possible orange is likely about as expensive as EM wants to go without having to deal with colors available for an extra fee.

White, grey, silver, black, and blue are relatively inexpensive then a bit of a jump to red and an even larger jump to yellow. As green is made by mixing blue and yellow it costs about as much as red and the most expensive color they are offering is orange which is made by combining the two most expensive primary colors, red and yellow.

Not trying to open a "can of worms" here but, what if the color yellow was treated like cruise control or any other "option?" Let's say the difference in manufacturing cost is $50...Would you be willing to pay an extra $100 for that color?...$200?...$300?..........$500?

I don't think EM wanted to get into that early on because it does not fit their highly efficient model of only building a few variations at the factory. As it is right now EM only plans to have 14 variations rolling off the main assembly line.

7 colors x 2 transmissions = 14 variations which is incredible as we have an engineer who worked at this plant when it produced GM trucks and he told us that on that line they had over 25 different wiring harnesses alone. After rolling off the main assembly line these 14 variations will be shipped to distribution centers across the country where they will wait for orders to be placed and customized with options before delivered to retail stores for customer pickup. The Shreveport plant will also contain one of these distribution centers, which will likely be the only one for the first year, to handle the installation of options for those of us with reservations.

I believe the individual vehicle customization options offered by Elio Motors will be such a huge selling point that EM will eventually start offering more customizations even if these special orders take longer. I can easily see them offering the option to pay extra for special colors and/or for a high performance turbo engine and/or other customizations which would not be easy to do after the vehicle is built. As these vehicles would only begin assembly after the buyer completes their purchase I can see where these special orders would take longer to be delivered however I think Elio Motors could easily still have these in the hands of customers within two weeks.

The paint step is pretty fundamental to the design of the assembly line. If they offer color options, it will likely be for added color rather than in the basic under coat. Just my guess.
But this is the modern age, it's reasonable to have equipment that can do 64,000 colors on demand, if they can manage the part tracking to get a custom order into one spot to final assemble, then route the specific car to the assigned buyer. That a really big deal to do any of that. But it CAN be done. So not likely on the first year model. EM was very firm about having a limited set of colors.
My best guess, if they did this, they would have the normal assembly line, then a separate line for the custom paint and pre-assembly. Then with VIN tracking they can merge back to the regular line and divert the VIN later for the customer. 100% prepaid would likely be required. Otherwise they would have to track a S/N on each part and 'pick' each one. Individual part 'pick' is truly an expensive operation. (Did I ever say I did some JIT software projects for Boeing? :-) )

Wow that yellow is SHARP! This I have a request to see a mock up if I can?

A red Elio with a white racing stripe (a wide stripe in the middle with a thin stripe on each side of the wide one)

And

A white with Elio with a black racing stripe (same stile as the one above)

I have seen mock ups of this from a top down but IDE like to see what it looks like from the front

Okay, I'm in. Yellow has been my favorite color since I was, what, maybe 5 y/o, and bought my first baby turtle from the pet store. . . . . . 2 choices, some had their shells painted Cobalt Blue, and some were painted BRIGHT Canary Yellow.

Mine was YELLOW.

Soooooo. . . . . Let's vote on the color yellow.

Think Ya know how my vote falls. (Can we vote more than once?).

If I didn't have to drive on very dark roads (through mountains) I would love purple. Unfortunately I feel dark colors will simply disappear to view of other drivers under those driving conditions. So I am going for Creamsicle (no matter how it is spelled I get a red flag) and adding reflective tapes like they use on semis. I have noticed I really like to see them and I want them to readily see me also. :) Z
I want mine in rocket silver to match my RV, the reflective tape is a good idea.

Nice thoughts, Nitro. . . . . But putting a racing stripe down the middle of the Elio? Hmmm. . . . . Are Ya really sure about that? Just asking, mind Ya.

Kinda of reminds me of a pair of striped pajamas on an EXTEREMLY skinny person. . . . . Think maybe the pajamas would only have one stripe. , and that might be a tiny one. o_O
