I know back when, but I don't know if it was answered-
Are the EM colors "off the shelf" i.e. are they or have been used by other companies -so we might get a better look at them?
I was told at a showing that the colors are the same colors used by another large auto manufacturer. She (or he) said that she (or he) couldn't tell me who, but then offered that it rhymed with 'lodge'.
Keep this between us...

When EM was here at the auto-auctions Jerome told me that developing a color pallet with a supplier can cost quite a bit and the pallets are proprietary with the manufacturer who pays for it. But a suitable one had been developed and was 'abandoned', so the supplier contracted that out to EM.
So obviously EM will only re-invest into new colors when it seems more justified to them. Getting the car out the door seems to be top of the list.

I had actually heard the same thing however it is my understanding that the color palette that EM acquired is already larger than just 7 colors so EM already has access to more colors. EM is simply limited to 7 colors by the way they have chosen to use the infrastructure in Shreveport at this time with a combination of popularity and cost being the deciding factors.

In the top overall car colors in the U.S., for all vehicle categories, Silver leads the way with White in second, followed by Black.
These 3 colors account for 50% of all vehicle sales with Silver at 25% .
The next 3 account for 25% of all vehicles . Blue, Grey, Red in that order . The next 3 account for only 8 % of all vehicle sales . Gold, Green , Brown

I think Elio knows what they're doing despite the orange and green anomalies . If I were building a new car , I would probably avoid yellow too.

Some how, I always liked my bright yellow '85 Caviler RS not to mention my Red Candy Metallic Clear Coat (Candy apple red) 2011 F150.
Problem is that most people buy whatever the dealer has in stock. And dealers order based on the same statistics that you quoted.
Sounds like a self fulfilling prophecy.
But then again, how many people actually order their cars today.

There are studies as to why "we" prefer colors like silver white and black for our vehicles . It is thought that these shades connote high tech , luxury and superiority . Further , these colors provide greater residual value . I don't think this is an issue with a $6800 Elio , but could be very significant when factoring the resale of a used luxury car or truck .

It will be interesting to see what colors EM buyers choose as it is true that custom ordering vehicles is unusual today yet that is exactly what EM is planning to allow all their customers to do.

So the study shows people select colors because they are insecure? Or they have been brainwashed by commercials? I can buy that.
Just like people by "Red" fire trucks 'cause it's traditional even though scientific studies have show that "Lime Yellow" is more visible in all seasons and therefore safer.
