The Elio Engine

...and is that six months on the base line engine, or all the variations?

What variations, what I see is there is ONE engine for 2015. Only powertrain option is AMT or standard manual trans. I hope that is still the case

The testing of the engine and setting up the factory are obviously being done at the same time.
I keep seeing "Elio has only made one engine". False. IAV has made "at least one" engine... But, we can't say they've only made one. I'd be surprised if the company making the prototypes isn't preparing jigs or whatnot already. Elio could easily tell Techno Motorsports what parts will change and which ones will not.

a week ago when the tour was in Charlotte, I asked Jerome and he said they only have 1 working motor .... for that reason they are taking baby steps in the testing process .... I didn't ask but have no doubt that IAV does have the equipment needed to make an engine and could do so, if/when, again if they have to

Fair enough. I still find it odd they didn't make more than one for testing. I sure would have. I wonder how hard it would be for IAV to pop another one out of the forge.

I asked about that as well .... Jerome said it was purely a matter of money (major money) .... he said it would have been nice to have more than one but the reality was, if done properly, they can learn all they need from one motor .... further, if there happen to be design or build issues (none are anticipated) there isn't any use in having additional motors already built with the same flaws .... during a conversation earlier today with Jerome Vassallo, VP of Sales at the Elio exhibit on 12-6-14 in Charlotte, NC I learned a great deal about the extensive nature of the testing that the IAV Elio engine is undergoing .... from beginning mid November, the process will take several months .... as a loose outline of the process, after it was first assembled, spun tested, disassembled, measured, and reassembled, they pressure it with air and check for leaks .... after each of these steps it will be disassembled sufficiently to X-ray the components and meticulously take measurements .... next they move to installing fluids, testing, disassemble to X-ray and take measurements .... next the motor will be fired and the whole process is repeated .... as a side note, at times the motor will be connected to two computers .... one will show the computer projections and one will show the actual performance .... the motor will be subjected to a range of test on the dyno that are needed to determine how it will perform in simulations of city driving, long interstate cruises, wide open throttle .... after completing all of that testing they will eventually begin removing oil to the point the engine will fail .... this motor will never see service in an Elio .... reports will come when they come but for folks wanting frequent updates, it ain't gonna happen .... Paul Elio is actively working/monitoring the entire process

I know what you mean. I have spent hours hunting for something I know was posted and wanted to share with some newcomer. I don't mind but sometimes I simply don't have the time even if I am retired. I do have a life over and above Elio - sort of. :-) Z

Throttle cable;
SImple, effective, and low cost.
I also have a 2007 Honda Fit that has the drive by wire system , and I do not like the feel of it.
