I would REALLY like to see progress but this isn't it. I see no machining, no holes drilled, nothing. These are the block, head and cam cover we all saw in tech note v22 or v24 several weeks ago stacked together in their relative positions. No more no less.
My thoughts exactly. Let's get some mills fired up.

Let's all hope these are 'VERY OLD' pictures. The 'cast' engine parts were available MONTHS ago. If they have not been 'machined', 'fitted' and 'assembled' by NOW....... Elio Motors and IAV have a PROBLEM!!!! They should at least be in the 'running Bench Testing' phase by NOW!

the finished product will have to go thru durability testing, government approval, crash test..etc .. mod and changes after all that. the government will naturally find problems.
probably looking at months for production after the testing starts.
launching a new vehicle for an established GM or Ford is hard enough.
But we must keep in mind this is using established parts (except engine and tranny) and is a simple vehicle- we think

Some of those issues are negated by the fact the Elio has 3 wheels and therefore is a motorcycle. They do not do tests on motorcycles from what I understand. Elio Motors is having the vehicles tested because they want that 5 star equivalent rating. The Elios will be tested by the same companies that test cars after they are in production although Elio is planning on having them tested before production. :-) Z

The tranny will be an existing model. The government will not be involved in any testing as the Elio, at least Federally, is classified as a motorcycle. Elio could, if they so desire, accept the motor without testing and start production. There are no government hurdles involving the engine or the rest of the drivetrain. The transmission will be a transacted, of course, as the Elio is front wheel drive.

It is actually very likely these are not the same castings we were shown before as just from looking at the pictures I can see that the cylinder head is different.

Take a look at these two pictures looking specifically at the Elio logo on the cylinder head:

The Elio logo on the cylinder head has actually been flipped upside down on the photo released today compared to how it was positioned on the cylinder head in the previously released imaged. This tells me that this is a different head. :)

The castings which were shown today are very likely newer castings as it is likely when they assembled the previous castings together they noticed that the Elio logo on the head was upside down on the completed engine.

Hummm; if the 'engineers' did not notice a minor 'upside down' LOGO on their 'computer generated assembly' of the engine...... what MAJOR things will they have to 'wait and see' until the engine is assembled and started? Hope they have 'cast' more than ONE or TWO, since Elio Motors said that they require "18 to 26 vehicles" to 'finalize' their design!
Wonder why they still show pictures of the BLOCK with 'un-machined' cylinders? What have they been doing in the MONTHS since the Block arrived?

I believe it is impossible to draw many conclusions from just these new pictures especially knowing that the cylinder head is different which could mean that none of these castings are the same ones we have seen before. We just have no way of knowing how many castings have been made and what has happened to them.
