I heard the exhaust will have kazoo like qualities, what else would you expect from a squirrel cage engine. But then again what exhaust? What engine? What car? Where's mine?
Small engines don't have to sound like a kazoo... my Abarth only has a 1.4 liter engine, but it sounds pretty mean. YouTube 500 Abarth exhaust to hear it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Odd number cylinder engines have unique qualities. I am hoping IAV did a good job balancing the Elio Engine and it will be reliable, efficient, and sound really cool.
The prototype video sounded pretty cool. 3 cylinder engines are easy enough to balance out with dampeners and/or counter weights.
If the exhaust sounds like a kazoo, then give each cylinder its own pipe so the kazoos are at least singing in three part harmony.
High mileage is a requirement for the ATVM loan. If EM does not get the ATVM loan, there is no need for high mileage. Modify the engine for more power. A lower mileage such as 75 MPG is still great and the added power will help sell it.
I just noticed this from the Elio fact sheet: "Targeted 84 MPG Highway / 49 MPG City" I don't recall the 49 mpg city being there before. 66 mpg overall for 50/50 driving is awesome, but can anyone confirm if the fact page was recently updated or if that has been there all along?
