Yes, but that's not how generators work.
A) They are not nearly 100% efficient.
B) They don't run the engine at 100% power.

Using an auto with a drive belt, the alternator has a lower end efficiency of around 80% and tops out around 95%. Peak efficiency actually occurs just over idle to low cruise speed (depending on vehicle)
Assuming a purpose built diesel generator (large scale .5MW to 10MW) which uses a 3 phase alternator, and commonly runs at a fixed speed of 1800rpm and changes the air/fuel intake to compensate for load.
Not that there's a point to this, we're pretty much derailed, but this is fun!
