I think the reservation holders will give EM a fair sampling of what options are popular and what are not. Computer tracking of options will help streamline the inventory and the configuration of the cars as shipped. Why ship with temporary seats installed when historically only 3 out of 100 buyers order leather. Why ship with the standard radio if 93 out of 100 want an upgraded audio system.

It's possible that the leather covers could be as easy as this:

This would eliminate the labor to remove the factory fabric. On the other hand, I can't see EM "wasting" the money to put the fabric on in the first place. I'm beginning to agree that a temporary seat or little folding chair could be placed in the units scheduled for interior work.

Here is a rather unique way of visualizing just how small (or big) 0.9 liters is. Cheers!

I like it but I have an even better Elio Motors related comparison. Paul Elio is frequently seen holding a Starbucks venti sized coffee which is 24 oz. So PE's coffee is really not much smaller than the total roughly 30 oz displacement of the 0.9L EM engine.

Not exactly a 30-second job. But kind of neat just the same.

I still think building to order on the assembly line initially makes sense. Once the first year production is out then i can see applying the marshaling center idea.
It WOULD be easier to build to order on the assembly line like all the other manufacturers are doing. However, once the line is optimized to handle that, it won't be as efficient down the line. The long-term answer is to "practice like you play". If they stick to their next-day delivery, they should start out that way even if it means the Shreveport marshaling center is more busy than it will be later.
