We have not seen the results of a Dino test. We all know the goal of 55 HP. I can not believe that the results were not quite a bit higher. 900cc is 55 cu. in. In automobiles a one to one HP to cubic inch. was accomplished with carburetors and mechanical ignitions. With fuel injection and electronic ignitions this should be quite possible on regular fuel. The basic design we say look good. By the way motorcycle engines do way better. Perhaps they is a an issue with cost of engine. If anyone has information please share.

Many of the higher powered small motors get their HP from spinning faster and often lack on the low end torque. EM/IAV designed this engine to have a lot of low end torque and I suspect there was some trade off in top end performance to get that torque.

I've ridden a number of motorcycles that produce ungodly amounts of upper end HP as well as those that have low end grunt with only stupid amounts of power. I'd rather have the stupid power and low end grunt to ungodly power that makes me slip clutches and listen to angry bees while driving down the road.

If the car can accelerate to 60 in less than 10 seconds, got better than 100 mph, and still get 84 mpg then I think EM/IAV probably hit the right balance in tuning the engine.

If the Elio does have a 0 - 60 between 10 and 11 seconds (with a factory tune), it's in good company. :)

I would like to know what happened to the big dyno test result a month ago? Big build up and then swept under the rug?? I am getting disappointed with some of these things. If they are not sure of something then say nothing at all.

Don't forget the Honda Insight G1 2000-2006 1L.........10.4 seconds 0-60 also.
The Insight gets the best mileage because of the ability to enter the "Lean Burn" zone, (22.4-1 AFR) not because of the HYBRID system.

Elio Motors has already told us that as designed the current engine is capable of more power out of the box. The plan has always been to de-tune the engine to maximize fuel efficiency. During one of the town hall meetings Paul Elio even told us that after production begins the plan is to offer a more powerful engine tune to existing owners which would likely result in HP numbers of about 65-70 which does not sound like much however that is roughly 20%+ more power than the factory tune.

The IAV engine is also easily capable of even more power than those numbers with an upgraded cylinder head featuring technologies such as variable valve timing/lift and dual-cams operating four valves per cylinder. On top of all that we know the engine block is engineered so it can handle the stresses of using a turbo as EM has told us this and have even told us they left extra space in the plant design for the steps required in building and installing a turbo engine.
