Self-imposed number. It means nothing as far as any financing commitment. It's an inital price guarantee and marketing metric. Not even close to what they need to begin production, by almost $200 million.

So they hit the 65K reservation self-made threshold. It means nothing. The DOE, nor any other potential investor, made a commitment for funding. This was a self-imposed number. They could have said 50K or 100K. There's no commitment tied to it other than $7,300 price.

That is incorrect; the 65K was a number worked out between the ATVM people and EM; why they picked that number, or what it represents was never disclosed by either party. The signed commitment was also part of those meeting between ATVM and EM.

Reservations keep bopping around 30/day, +/- a few. None of the variation is especially significant, unless it becomes a sustained trend. Average over the last 8 weeks is about 32.5. Over the last 4 weeks, it's 31.1. That's the holiday period, so no telling what kind of effect that could have.

There is bound to be a little recovery, that should last well past the 65k offer. But I would have to say it will take more than that for any substantial increase in the reservation rate. The ATVM would about do it to trigger everything else. A major funding from elsewhere would as well.

Completion of the crash testing or start of the 100 pilot build might be a partial trigger point for investor funding, but not the ATVM. Other than the 65k goal, something like having sales of the Engine to other industry, something like that, of a profit generating business operating, might contribute to the ATVM.

Anyway, it looks like it will be very quiet on the eastern front until something substantial happens, something better than reaching the 65k.

Good idea, but until then try this: Chicago Auto Show Feb. 11-20, 2017, Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chicago_Auto_Show says Attendance 1,000,000+. Thus one million opportunities to be seen. Also, the dates of the auto show COULD coincide with the 65,000 reservation goal achieved. @Elio Motors: Please come to Chicago.
