A couple of months ago I ready to place my $1,000 all in deposit, but my wife made me wait. "You mean that the deposit is 'non-refundable'? What if they never build and deliver a single car?" Since then I have been following the various posts and finally found this forum. I am sure there are lots more of folks like me that are ready to buy an Elio, but have not placed an order.

Yes, watching and waiting.

Hi and welcome from Oregon, fpelsdca. I went the other way although not for $1K but only because I don't have it. I am at $100 all in now but am going to upgrade to $500 in July when I see the Elio in Portland and then start saving to upgrade again to $1K as fast as I can. LOL What can I say, I fell in love and want my number!!! Enjoy your research here and on Elio Motors. There is an incredible amount of information to be found. Next year in my Elio! :-) Z

Okay... a little number fun...

The AVERAGE number of Elios reserved since January 23rd (first report I have access to) is now 92.777 per day.
There are 207 days left this year.
207 * 92.777 = 19, 204.98 cars will be reserved by December 31st given the average number of cars reserved per day so far.
There are 20,187 cars reserved as of the 7th.
20,187 + 19,204 = 39,392 cars reserved by the end of this year.

Now, a little further, if you wish. Let's say you reserve yours on December 31st and are the very last person to go all-in.
25% of Elio reservations are at the all-in $1,000 level.
There would be 9,848 people with a line number (although, I suspect that number will go up quickly as people switch from lower amounts to take advantage of the $500 off)
At a production rate of 250/day (that's only one per 115 seconds which is less than half as fast as the line WAS running under GM), it would take 39.39 days to produce yours... 7.87 weeks.

So, your $1,000 all-in saves you $500 and gets you an Elio a little quicker. Remember, there aren't very many $500 or $250 all-ins... hardly any, comparatively speaking... So, that first $100 all-in guy will probably get his the week or two after the last $1,000 all-in person gets his.

However, IF they stop taking reservations at the 40,000 level to be on the safe side, it'll take 32 weeks to produce that many given the 250 per day mark.

There. I've had my number fun for the day. I hope you enjoyed my little foray into math.

Ty, Thanks for those numbers.

To keep people realistic about the delivery schedule I do have to clarify a bit that Elio Motors will not start producing 250 Elios per shift on the very first day. It will take them some time to get up to that speed as they will undoubtably encounter some kinks in the process which need to be ironed out. Elio Motors addressed this on their blog on April 11 when they wrote that it is their estimate that if you went all in on that date you would receive your Elio about 5-7 weeks after production begins. We happen to have a member, Zarquon, who made his reservation on the evening of April 11 and his number is 3686 so this gives us some insight into how production will start slowly and ramp up from there.

True. But the line can put out 553 per 8 hour shift once it "gets up to speed". Running it at half speed for people training won't be necessary for very long at all... just think, at half speed, you'd still be putting together about 34 per hour. What I mean is that in 2 hours, each person on the line will have "practiced" their job 68 times... Those jobs aren't that difficult. But, as you mentioned, there will be some hiccups... I'd bet those will come in the material line balance... getting the right number of parts to the line at the right time. They'll have buggy trains moving from the "shopping center" to the line almost constantly and that's a complicated dance.
