Learned to drive a stick in the 1960's I have owned a mixture of both auto and manual cars. Guess I'm getting tired of all the work for shift and such. Auto all the way for me.

Welcome Charles --- The Elio automatic is an AMT which means a manual transmission with clutch and shifting done by computer. No clutch pedal and a simple gear selector R N D and a + & - for manual shifting. I've heard they're a little clunky in auto mode but with a little practice can be shifted slickly in manual mode. I just hope the auto isn't too expensive. (My bride says I have to get auto so she can drive it to.

If I want my wife to go with me it must have an automatic trans otherwise I'll be by myself. Oh, is that a problem.........

from the poll it appears that the vast majority of members here have a strong preference when it come to the choice between a manual and automatic tranny .... that doesn't surprise me because if an automatic wasn't an option, I'd not consider purchasing the vehicle .... what does surprise me is there is such a small the percentage of folks who are in the market for a high mileage vehicle ,who said they would go with which ever one gives the best mileage

Me? Gotta go with an automatic. Had manuals all my life, but my recently 'jacked up' left knee is forcing me to go to the dark side...at least for the first Elio!

A few years ago I took bad step from beneath a 747 wing. Bones in my left foot shattered like glass and my back didn't do well either. Realistically I'll need the AMT.

I have an inherent lack of trust in auto transmissions, all my vehicles are manual, my primary three concerns are; reliability, mileage, cost. I've had better experiences over the years with standard vehicles though they really suck when you sprain your ankle
