Please keep in mine i'm only talking (warranty repair work) not PM service. Any place can do PM work, you can even do it your self and submit the receipts.
Right. I'm not concerned about preventative maintenance, because I do that myself. It's cheaper and faster. I'm capable of performing a fair chunk of any repairs that could be covered under a warranty, but somebody else doing it for free because it's covered is a lot better option then buying parts and spending the time to do it myself. Plus, DIY repair would probably void the warranty which would be a problem if a part I can't handle would need to be replaced.

have heard about Pep boys getting selected as the service center of choice for the Elios. Hope they have some type of training or accountability for some of their techs. In the past have had loose lug nuts on daughters car when she got tires, but they did say sorry and replaced the lug nuts that fell off. Oil filter not changed on oil change. (had it marked). Just hope they work on the Elios better then they work on other cars.

One would also think that all Pep Boys stores and employees would be aware of the Elio and the partnership agreement. There have been several Elio Facebook page comments about various Pep Boys Store employees saying "What the heck is an Elio"? Don't they have a staff monthly newsletter? Matter of fact Elio should have Elio Coming SOON posters in all Pep Boys locations as part of their marketing strategy.

People like to make fun of what they aren't familiar with. Pep boys probably has people all along the bell curve. Frankly, Elio is SO different and SO unfamiliar it still hasn't permeated the mind of every single person. Unless it affects you personally, most of us ignore what we consider white noise. The store where these guys work probably have a company news letter sitting on his desk, unread for weeks.
Most people stand on the thought, I'll believe it when I see it. (and don't read news letters, unless it mentions an employee bonus)

Yep, I agree, but still feel if someone has a personal interest in cars and is an auto specialist or professional mechanic they should at least be aware of the concept because it is so different. I'm sure the word will get out to all PEP Boys sooner or later.

So now we know why the maintenance departments at each Elio store doesn't have to be that large. From press release...

PEP BOYS HAS BEEN NAMED THE OFFICIAL SERVICE CENTER OF ELIO MOTORS

It's a quantum leap toward our dream!

Pep Boys, the multi-billion dollar, nationwide retail and service center chain, is the official service center for Elio Motors! With hundreds and hundreds of stores across the US, Pep Boys is the ideal partner we've been looking for. They have the reach, experience, and brand recognition to satisfy our customers in all areas of service and maintenance.

...

(link to EM site not working for me. hopefully for someone else?)

Lets just hope they institute a training program on them before they practice on real people's vehicles. nothing against Pep boys but they have done some shoddy work in the past on my daughters car like leaving the lug nuts loose on wheels, forgetting to look for an O ring on oil filter coming off and making oil leak on son's car. I don't go there for any service and only parts. Could be Manny, Moe, and Jack, or Moe, Larry, and Curley. Hopefully they will also offer a service manual for them so those of us that do service on our other vehicles, can do on these.

Any certified mechanic and or DIY motor head will be able to service the Elio. Shoddy work is a Pep Boys management and personnel issue. Partnering with EM.............it's now Manny, Moe, Jack, and PAUL. Paul needs to set the PB service bar high for Elio Motors customers as a partnership requirement to insure EM's success. Frankly, PB is a status quo auto service business...................without EM.

EM will not be a success without an award winning service department. EM has a lot riding on PAUL'S obvious confidence in Manny, Moe, & Jack. Will PB service meet his or more importantly OUR expectations? Time will tell! Customer relations from both the initial sales experience and the follow up service experience is extremely important to me.

I think the pep boys repair idea is quite efficient. However, how fast will it take for PB's to "get up to speed" for repair? Using off the shelf parts, will service manuals/ cross reference aids be availed to Elio owners should we find ourselves out where Christ lost his sandals, no pep boys and goober leaning over the hood saying well golllllly ain't never seen one of these here cars before.

I know I'm being sarcastic but the truth to my point. In a several months these cars will be hitting the streets and nobody knows how to fix them, or get parts for them.

Would Elio sell service manuals / cross references manuals, at minimum to/for the Eliot owner to work on the vehicle at home.

Goober was actually a certified master mechanic and even though he hadn't seen an Elio before........he found that it was actually much simpler to work on than most other vehicles in his auto repair shop. He found easy access service manuals on line and an Elio Motors Tech Hotline. Parts were over night shipped directly from Elio Motors. It's not rocket science.........it's an Elio......Goober exclaimed!
