This is why you need to avoid Tesla. Battery technology will be outdated with Fisker. Toyota will keep up with the formula that works. Toyota didn't become a powerhouse by accident. With the new solid state that Fisker will be using soon, I can see a 200 mpg Elio using that same battery and Toyota Hybrid technology. All for the low price of $7450.

A Skyactiv diesel would be perfect for the Elio. It's struggled to pass US emissions and future EU. Since Elio doesn't need to meet that standard, then it would be a way to get 100 mpg even though it would pollute more than a VW TDI.

I wonder if the Elio could use the rotary engine from Liquid Piston? It can run on a variety of fuels. http://www.liquidpiston.com

It might work but highly unlikely for the Elio as Liquid Piston only has a 6,000 square foot facility. At best they could only make about two engines a week. They would need an engine factory to be able to supply Elio. Still, it's a nice idea.

Not for the Elio if we really expect the Elio out within the next few years, but I would love to pop one of those little engines into a bicycle. I have been itching to build another motorized bicycle and think I might go gas again this time since our electric is still running fine. One of those in a bike would be a hoot, especially for being so light!
