Me too! We used to own a VW Beetle in Germany. When it rained, water used to drip through the windscreen seal lower corners. It then ran into the A pillars, which is where the hot air ducts run. As soon a s you selected hot air, this water used to evaporate and flow up onto the inside of the screen, where it would condense.

Result? The "demist" was actually "totally mist up that windscreen worse than you could ever think possible".

I had a '66 bug and even in Florida it would fog up all the windows, something terrible, so with the heater at full blast I'd have the windows open to see. In no time at all it would be a case of diminishing return and I'd freeze all the way to college.

I'm still undecided about driving the Elio during the winter...and my skepticism has nothing to do with the Elio being able to handle snow...it should do that just fine...I'm just not sure I'll want to drive it in the SALT...one good thing is at least the body panels won't be made out of metal so they won't rust, but that damn salt gets into every little nook and cranny on the vehicle and then it starts rotting everything away...I really wish they would start using something on the roads that is non-corrosive...

My friend / mechanic showed me a truck the other day. 2002 Ford 350, I think. 40K miles on it. Used pretty much exclusively for plowing snow.
Completely rusted out underneath. That salt's a killer!

there was talk of an Elio coming with a sealed underbelly .... last if remember it doesn't appear it will be standard but might be an option .... depending on its construction it might be worth considering for folks in areas with high salt use

As far as salt goes, just wash your vehicles underside once a week and you can usually ward off the massive rusting caused by the salt. In my younger days, I worked at a car wash ( in the winter, in Fargo, ND ) every time it was above freezing we got slammed. We had regulars who came in every week, no matter the weather and they never had a rust problem.
Here in Colorado its not so much the salt but magnesium chloride and rocks. They don't put salt mixed with sand down, they spray magnesium chloride to help prevent freezing and then put down a salt pea gravel mix. The pea gravel gets kicked up by vehicles and ruins your windshield and chips up the paint on your hood. It sucks!

without seeing one, I don't know how effective it would be to spray the underside of an Elio with coating to prevent rust .... whatever GM is using on their components today seems to offer better corrosion/rust protection than on their vehicles we owned back in the 70's - 80's .... back then I'd have my vehicles sprayed at the dealership prior to taking them home .... that isn't even mentioned any more

Idea...

I was thinking of a idea for a upgrade for my Elio during the winter times... right now you can get a set of these "snow tracks" that bolt on to your hubs, they are the triangle shaped ones, made for 4 wheel drive trucks... cost about $2000 for 4 of them, these triangle shaped snow flat tracks just bolt on, take the tires off and put the tracks on... ( just guessing at price ) No need for chains.. when you have a Elio snow half-track...

You would only need 2 of them.. So maybe $1000 upgrade for winter snow tracks?... you would need to place a ski system in the back wheel area to lift the wheel up or just let it drag... no snow would stop you now... The Elio snow half-track is born... who is going to make it first...

Is Elio Motors getting this... sounds like a hell of a upgrade in the cold States in the winter time.. no stopping the Elio Nation....

Proud to Be.. an Elio owner #MMCCXXV = # 2225 see ya on the road...
I'm thinking you'll have to spend a little more than that !!
