hopefully this time next year they will be in production and on the roads .... right off, I have two concerns about driving an Elio on/in show .... I've seen VW Beetles stuck in show that was deep enough to cake up under it and get the weight off of the drive tires .... so, for me the depth of the snow as related to the Elio's ground clearance would have to be considered .... second, I always try to keep in mind that experience tells me to ask myself it what will be gained by getting on dangerous roads is worth the potential cost (damage) .... it will take real world use to tell how strong or weak the front struts will be .... it needs to be know if a slide into a ditch is shown to result in the need to rebuild the front end .... on the positive side, its light weight should make it easier to push it out of ditches and such

The ones I've seen are around $4000 a set (ATV sized), and 100+ lbs each. I don't think they'd be practical, but oh what an ice fishing rig!
I think the only reason people worry about the front suspension is that it's out in the open for everyone to see. Lots of cars on the road with similar setups, Heck - since I've already mentioned ATVs, it's very similar to ATV IFS designs, that take a ton more abuse on a daily basis.

As we're getting our first taste of winter up here, I thought I'd start this thread. I'm gonna use it to keep track of how many days a winter I'd want to leave the Elio home and take the truck.
Feel free to play along, wherever you are, and for what ever reason you wouldn't/couldn't take the Elio.
Here's my view on the way home this afternoon:
So I sit at 1 NE (Non Elio) day for the season so far. I'm NOT saying it'd be bad in snow, I just prefer a big old gas guzzling 4x4, even to my fairly surefooted full size Buick, when I don't know how bad the roads are gonna be.
Hummm... been sitting here in long sleeves (65f)on the patio, having my latte, trying to figure out all the white stuff in the pic, and my friend reminded me that up North it gets soooo cold that water could freeze. He said he's going inside and wait 'till it warms up to 75f, - turn on the weather channel to see why it was so cool down here. South Florida (lol)
NOTE: Just finished the calculations, how many driving days, hummmmmm. 365 (less hurricanes)

A life without snowmobiling or ice fishing is an incomplete life. I'm not saying I wouldn't enjoy sitting on your patio with ya right now, though. 24° and taking a break from doing some work on the plow truck that should have been done a month ago...
Sounds like southern New Mexico and we don't have hurricanes or tornados. My wife and I enjoy snow as long as it is on TV and not where we live.

Sounds like you needed windshield wipers inside and out. LOL :-) ZMe too! We used to own a VW Beetle in Germany. When it rained, water used to drip through the windscreen seal lower corners. It then ran into the A pillars, which is where the hot air ducts run. As soon a s you selected hot air, this water used to evaporate and flow up onto the inside of the screen, where it would condense.
Result? The "demist" was actually "totally mist up that windscreen worse than you could ever think possible".
If we had snow down here in the 'Valley' east of Phoenix, I'd prefer to drive the Elio over my Prius. Both are FWD but the Elio has more weight over the driven wheels.
After I get mine, I can test that out in the high country, either at the Mogollon Rim or Near to Flagstaff. Here in the valley I might have two days of frozen road at maybe 2am. But yes, I'd get up out of bed to give it a go!
