keeps the riff raff out :)

Actually, it is just plain nice to have 4 seasons. I think folks that live where it is always warm really don't know what they are missing. Cold without snow is just cruel. Spring after enduring a long winter is heaven and summer is nice for those the like hot stuff.

I'm to where a long weekend somewhere warm mid winter will get me through. I'm about 15 years away from snowbird status though.

Honestly I don't know what makes people want to live in the northern states. I live in Oklahoma and gets too cold here for my taste. I just don't do cold very well and the older I get the worse I am. I would rather it be 100 deg out than be cold.

It's where they grew up.
It's where all of their friends and family live.
( Their roots if you will. )
My favorite --- They don't know any better.

We get all 4 seasons here in OK. 100+ deg in the summer and 0- deg in the winter. We pretty much get it all, along with Tornados (big ones) and more recently Earth Quakes (small ones). I don't mind temps in the mid 20's as long as the wind doesn't knock that down to single digits, which it does more often than not here. I think I would like winter more if it just snowed straight down, but that doesn't happen often in OK. But we get more Ice than snow and that really sucks.

I grew up in northern MN where I recently confirmed my memories of snow drifts over my head by finding an ancient photo of my dad standing next to one. It wasn't uncommon to have a week or more of -20 or lower temperature. You know it is cold when the plugged in car has a hard time starting and the tires are out of round from the cold.

Numerous times I asked my dad why in the H-E-double toothpicks he moved there and his answer was that he preferred snow to the ice storms he grew up with in WI. Of course he was conveniently forgetting to count in the black ice days :(

Now I live in the sun-belt just south of the twin cities. It is easily 20 degrees warmer here and although it gets warmer here than I'd like, thank goodness we rarely see 100+ degrees. I think I feel about heat the way you feel about cold only I'd rather it be cold and put more clothes on then just being down right hot.
