Saw my first early bird farmer out plowing ground yesterday, so I'm calling it a season. Might bump the number to 2 for a late snow a couple weeks ago. Winter was a pussycat here this year though. Average year, I'd guess 8 days.

they are calling snow later tonight in my wife's home in South Dakota

Well, since I seem to have plenty of time to kill, I'll resurrect this thread for another winter season.

(New members can check the 1st post to see what it's all about).

Play along again if you'd like.

Today would be NE day #1 - not based on how much snow we got, just that it's the first and the NDFs (Non Driving err People, yeah people is spelled with an F right?) are not yet weeded out.

Twas a slow but smooth ride home in da truck, 4×4 was not needed, but it was available. Average of 1 NDF per 8 miles in the ditch, proud to report all of em were on the MN side of the border.

Amazing isn't it? For all the snow we get, how in the hell do so many people totally forget how to drive in it from season to season? Nobody repealed the laws of physics between seasons... smh...
It is, and I think part of the blame lies in modern technology. FWD/AWD, ABS, traction control, etc. A whole generation now has probably never driven an old school car on snow and fail to realize how slippery things are till they cross the line.

My first ride was a 69 Chevy C10, that took a lot of finesse to drive in snow. Usually if you did ditch it, you weren't going fast enough to go in very far. Last night I was wondering "How'd they get way down there?"

Every year when snow season starts loom on the horizon, I try to pay closer attention to my driving, and start to catch all those bad habits that would get me in trouble in the snow. It's really easy to get lazy and just expect there to be clear roads with good traction all the time.

Honestly I don't know what makes people want to live in the northern states. I live in Oklahoma and gets too cold here for my taste. I just don't do cold very well and the older I get the worse I am. I would rather it be 100 deg out than be cold.
